In a couple of days I'll be heading out on an 8 hour road trip to visit my parents for a week. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to prep the Mustang for the trip? Parts, navigation/infotainment settings, etc....
I figured this may be a good space to gather some best practices too :)
Nice looking ride!! My girlfriend and I did the drive to Massachusets to get the ferry to Marthas Vinyard no long ago. My car handled the ride with no problem. I would just check the basic fluids, tire pressure, etc.

Thanks!
I just had the regular service (~5000 miles) done last week, so got everything straightened away then. Also had the Ecoboost recall work done. Taking it back to the service shop tomorrow to get a replacement backup camera installed (current one randomly acts up).

My question was also meant to be geared towards any accessories - front mask, mud flaps, etc.?

Stop for gas before you need to. Don't go overboard on caffeine. If you get tired, stop for an hour or so...close your eyes, eat. Drink water.

I did 26 hour drives straight from FL to NY for a few years. Got it down to a science and they weren't too dreadful.

top off fluids check tires, gas, get a can of the fix a flat and tape the front end...if you dont want bugs, rocks, etc destroying your front...
and as mom always says, make sure you have a clean pair of underwear on!

id tape the whole front end to keep rockchips down. only larger size rocks will rip a chip hole in the tape. Less likely to chip.

Example.
^this lol.

I remember I did a near non-stop run a few years back from NYC to Tallahassee and timed myself - 17 hours, only stopping to fill-up. I felt like Kowalski

Rather than tape the front end, how about using dip it for protection and then peeling it off when you get home?

It's a major pita to get off (in my experience). My father in law tried clear on his vette...looked terrible too because of the clear on the glossy paint.

Park Mustang in garage get rental car, 6 cyl Mustang, do burnout on way to buy Cheetos.
Lol! - I actually did this. I Drove my V6 Mustang 8.5 Hours to Charlotte NC then traded it in at a dealer near work for the 2016 GT Premium HAHAHAH

But Seriously..

Unless you like chips and all that shit.... FRUITS.

Get some grapes and Apples and Peaches and Plums washed in a little bag on the passenger seat. Rest down a Towel on the passenger seat and place the bag on there. As for drinks stick to Water and Gatorade. If you must caffeniate do not use coffee. It is a diaeuretic and makes you piss... n shit... Drink water or Gatorade that replaces fluids and keeps you from going crazy.

Do not get fast food as oils from burgers n crap will make you POO POO!

Leave at like 5 or 6 AM you will arrive at your destination a few hours later in the mid afternoon. Call ppl you havent talked to in YEARS on your carphone. Catchup with ppl you don't talk to everyday and when they ask why your calling just say your taking a road trip and their name jumped to your mind for some reason and you figured it would be a good time to tell them your still alive and catchup. Hours melt away like this!

Recently we made a trip to Niagara from Charlotte, up and down and other near by places - approx. 1400 miles. Oil life came down about 15% I guess. Tire pressure was unchanged. I had no wisor fluid though,, so that was a bummer when I needed to clean my windshield while driving. Lots of rain in West Virginia so the inside was getting foggy once a while so had to change temp inside and for first time struggled a bit to find the right buttons lol. Since its a ecoboost the mileage is excellent you might not stop at gas stations as often as you might think.
So I would say, check on oil life, tire pressure, jumper cable, a card board cutter ( I carry that coz one time when I was driving my Civic, I hit a raccoon and a plastic fender liner was broken and hanging, had to cut it), familiarize with your navigation/climate controls, have road side assistance/insurance cards handy, and try to measure your 0-60 when you get a chance ;)
