Premium Trim interior - VINYL???

I may be confused here, but when ordered Red Line interior for my GT I assumed the "premier trim" is better quality than standard leather. Reviewing the brochure now, I just noted that the standard EB/GT Premium interior is "leather with perforated inserts" while the Premier Trims (both black and red) are "vinyl with perforated leather inserts" :eyebulge: :eyebulge: :eyebulge:

Considering the extra charge for the "premier trim" it doesn't add up to me. I always considered "vinyl" a.k.a "plastic" inferior to "leather"

What am I missing here? :help:

I've sat in the premiere seats and if they're vinyl that's the best quality vinyl I've ever seen. There's no way it's vinyl

Subed, I really would love someone who got the interior to chime on how they feel and if it is an actual upgrade or not for the seats.

I have the GT premium 50 year package and it is not Vinyl.

When I asked about the quality of the seats and just where the vinyl was used the various dealers/sales guys said stuff like ("it's just the back half of the seats that's vinyl; its a blend of leather and vinyl that helps with the wear and tear due to the perforations; it allows the seats to feel softer while giving them strength; its only where the holes are is where they used the vinyl"). All are possible logical answers. We need a Ford insider to give us the real facts.

It supposed to be:

Charcoal black interior
Colour accented seats (ebony or redline)
Door trim (leather covering on top of the doors)
Custom stiiching (i.e. red for the redline)

That vinyl stuff however made me thinking....

Sales speech... no clue, so say something to put the fire out. I agree we need either Ford or someone with the Premier Trip to confirm...

I cannot believe Ford (or anyone else for that matter) would use inferior material for a more expensive "Premier" trim...

They feel fine, but there does seem to be a slight texture difference between the sides and seating surface. The sides do look like they could be textured vinyl.

Notice in the pics that the texture for the sides is less "pronounced"/deep.

BUT, I am not sure. :shrug:

The bolsters, side and back of seats plus the entire rear seat is vinyl. The center of the front seats are the only part of the interior that is leather. It's a high quality, soft vinyl though.

Before anyone freaks out in this thread like the other one, most all manufactures do this until you get into a vehicle costing well over 100K. I think the vinyl on the side bolsters of the front seats are for durability reasons. The rest of the vinyl is for cost reasons.

This...Ford has been doing this to the Mustang for awhile.

Good morning.

Most cars have a VINYL mix with the front in leather and the back including sides in VINYL. KATZKIN isn't 100% leather too. Same mix.

Funny story: I ordered on ebay 100% leather seat covers for my 2005 Mustang convertible. Did go to a installer and they said they need 3 hours and it would cost me $600 to install the whole set. OK. They figured out right away that it was not a leather/VINYL mix. First 1 installer started to work on it. Then 2 and 1 hour later a 3rd one. They had problems to pull the 100% leather on the seats! After 6 hours I got my "baby" back. "Where the hell did you buy this covers. There are good quality bud man - that is to much work...!"

That's why it is a leather/VINYL mix. You can't stretch leather that much so you can easy pull them over the foam on your seats.

Looking at your pictures again, the PREMIER TRIM looks like VINYL (Different pattern). That would be a question for FORD service to be sure.
