I'm trying to decide between the saddle brown leather and the black premier package leather (Guard exterior in a convertible). I was able to touch and feel the seats at a dealer which had a 50th anniversary (which I believe is equivalent to the premier leather option) and compare to the standard leather seats in dark saddle. I honestly couldn't tell much difference in the perforated back and seat bottom between the two (the part that is definitely leather), though the side bolsters and surround materials to me felt much better in the 50th anniversary. I thought this was supposed to be a fake leather material in both, but the 50th just felt much better, almost like it was real leather. Or is it just better vinyl?

I also noticed the dark saddle had brown contrast stitching on the door panels, which looked nice (though the door top was a harder plastic than the 50th). The dash was nice with the real contrast stitching on the 50th, but the material itself felt pretty similar to me on the dash, center console, etc. (except the top of the door, which as I mentioned felt like a softer material, though not like leather to me).

I noticed a difference when I sat in the car it is amazing! By touch it felt a bit more plush then the "standard" leather nothing that i thought I had to have but then I sat in it, I drive an hour to work every day it it was worth the upgrade for long distance

It's getting more and more difficult to tell real hide from vinyl these days. I have the redline premier trim and every surface of the seats looks and feels quite convincing.

In my 2005 GT premium, I could easily tell what was real and what wasn't. Not the case in this car. Or maybe it's all leather, dunno.

Maybe someone who's had the leather removed/replaced for poor fitment could chime in as it would be easy to tell from the underside of the seat coverings.

Only the Seat Faces (Bottom, Back, and Headrests) are Actual Leather. The outer sides and backs of the Seats are Vinyl. This is Common Practice in the Auto Industry unless you get into High Priced Exotic/Luxury Brands.
From what I understand, the Premium Trim Leather is a Different (Split Grain) Grade of Leather than what is used on the Premier Trim (Redline, Raven with White Stitching, Raven Anniversary Appearance Package and Limited Edition Leather) which is supposed to be the same Higher (Top Grain) Grade as the Premier Trim. The Premier Trim, Anniversary Appearance Package, and Limited Editions all receive the Soft Touch Upper Door Panels as well.

The upper portion of the dash, where it extends flat to the windshield (not sure if that has a specific name) felt like a soft "vinyly/foamy" material to me in both. The 50th anniversary had some nice stitching in this material across the top of the dash, the normal premium had a molded stitching (not sure it was real), the same as the one that extends down around the center stack in both.

The Standard Dash (Along with the sides of the Center Stack, and Soft Touch Upper Door Panels on Premier/LE/Anniv. Models) is an injection molded Foam Rubber with a Sprayed On Vinyl Finish. Premier/LE/Anniversary Package cars get Actual Stitched Vinyl Covers on the Dash Eyebrows.

Before I ordered my Ecoboost (Guard) Convertible, I sat in all three seat versions at the dealership, cloth, leather and premium leather (ebony). I thought there was a big difference in comfort and luxury appearance for the Premium seats and trim. To me it was worth the extra cost for the look and feel of the ebony. Get mine in 10 days, hope I feel the same then.

I have an EB Premium and a guy a work has a GT Premium with the 50 year Appearance pkg. We were parked next to each other comparing the other day. I was interested in what all the fuss was regarding the Premiere Interior pkg so I paid particular attention to our interiors.

His door panels have the soft touch along the top that mine don't. But the door panel inserts and arm rests appeared and felt to be the same padded matetial.

The dash pads felt the same with his have contrast stitching while mine has molded in stiching.

The consoles are the same.

I really couldn't tell if the leather on his seats was a better grade or not. Kept feeling and yes maybe they are but it is quite suttle.

His contrast stitching was white, mine was silver or light grey.

All in all its not an option I would check unless I wanted the red interior. BTW, the red interior would look killer with white, silver, deep impact blue or black.

After looking at mine carefully I believe that it's all leather on the seating surfaces

I saw one for sale online with the recaros and premium trim with accent color. Looks pretty cool. Does anyone else have this option? I'm just dreaming about my next mustang and I think it'd be a cool option to have, something a little different.

I'm no expert on leather, but I have a Guard GT Premium Convertible with the Saddle leather seats and absolutely love it.

thanks for all the replies, I detailed the interior yesterday and wanted to know 100% was leather and what wasn't so I wouldn't put the wrong gloop on the wrong surface.

For my premium GT I concluded the following are leather:

1. seats
2. steering wheel wrap
3. hand brake handle wrap
4. hand brake boot

Not sure about the manual shifter boot, I doubt it's leather. Comments?

I concluded the dash pads were vinyl
