Hi from germany,

I got problems with my power steering and I think I managed to circle it down to the actual pcb. (PSCM)
Any of you guys know where u can buy the module itself without the whole rack?

Issue are after the winter the power steering was completly off.
I got the fault codes
ABS DTC U420
PSCM U3000
wich i can't delete. And it seems like the cooling pump was slowly dripping on the module housing.

I checked all the common hints, like battery, grounds, wiring etc.

Details
Mustang S550 3.7 2016
My PSCM part number FR3C-14D003-AJ

In germany I can't get pretty much any part for my import cars.
Any of you know a place where they sell refurbished modules or used ones?

The power steering control module is integrated into the steering rack and is not a separate part. The codes look like communication codes. Check all the electrical plugs on the steering for any signs of corrosion. A replacement rack would have to be programmed, usually a dealer function, although some independent shops can do programming.

I had created this technical reference thread for the EPAS unit a while back, which contains a lot of info for the EPAS/PSCM. There may be some beneficial info in that to help you and your Shop doing the work:

From what has been discussed on here in previous steering related threads, the rack does need to be the same part # when the car was built, otherwise they’re going to have programming issues. If trying to use a rack that was not the same as the “as built” unit the vehicle came with it does need programming. There are several racks used between the S550 platforms and they are not just “swap in swap out” like racks from years ago….

Also check the threads in that link RE: the harness issues which causes steering unit problems.

thx cobrajet, I already studied your link couple of days ago.

i thought i can pick up the module with the same part number and swap it.
(im a electrician so swapping modules is no biggie)

does anyone know a shop wich sell them tough?

Hey there, I narrowed it down to the PSCM itself. There is a internal electronic fault.
Opened it up and if looks alright, but I get no feedback from any measurements except torque applied to the wheel and voltage.

I was able to backup the as built data and reflash it again.

My question is has anyone any experience with swapping the PSCM to a one who has a different parts number and just flash the old as built data?
Or any clue where I can pick one up?

Part number: FR3C-3F964-AJ
Calibration level: FR3C-3F964-AJ
Strategie: FR3C-14D003-AJ
Calibration: FR3C-14D004-AK

Quick Update any maybe some help for others...

I ordered a used power steering (just the lower part) with a number close to mine
Swapped the PCB into my rack, flashed the PSCM with the old backup data "As build data"(and also with the "As build data" from the ford site, worked both)
Now everything works again.

If you have still DTC's after changing, altough the self test works, look at the event time. PSCM and ABS codes can be stored even after erasing.
What work for me was to disconnect the batterie over night, next day everything was good.

Quick Tip to save extrodinary time with the swapping
- Clip the power lines on pcm, now matter how hot my soldering iron was (450°C max) i could not get it...just clip it and solder it on the leftover "studs" on your new one
- the data lines are not in a actual pin header, you can solder the other site and just pull them out. they are just studs for the cable
- DO NOT drill the leftover solder out of the holes, no matter how carefull you are. use desoldering braid (i almost ruined my pcb...i know i know)
- after removing the housing cover and the screws on the pscm itself, the pcb is just held by the silicon around the connectors (yes the connectors and the pcb are one piece)

Definitely good info; there’s not a lot of “tech” threads on the varying parts of the EPAS/PSCM system.
