Are the power outlets on the Mustang always on? Looks like we have two, one on the main console and one inside the compartment in the middle. Anyone know if these are always on, or are they timed?

In my Mazda3, one of them is always on, while the other one is tied to the ignition. I'll have to take a multimeter and find out later if know one knows.

Thanks

Just connect your phone to it with a wire and see if any of them charge with the ignition off. Probably quicker.

They seem to stay on.

I have my V1 plugged in the dash and my online charger in the console and they don't seem to time out and turn off.

Will they fit a standard-size lighter element?

Standard lighter size.

I actually have a dashcam that runs off the lighter in the main console. The problem is that it does seem to stay on if something is plugged in. There's a small LED that doesn't turn off. (Most dashcams work on the principle that recording begins when power is delivered, and they stop about 30 seconds after they lose power depending on model)

What's strange is that these seem to be smart... Or I'm imagining things.

If I turn off the engine without something plugged in, and then plug something in... It's stays off. (LED stays off)

However, if I turn the engine off with something plugged in, drawing power... It seems to stay on.

Can someone else confirm?

I'm been trying to figure this out with my radar detector. It stays on for a period of time after you lock car but eventually shuts off. Not sure how long but around 1 hour or so.

Cool, if it does indeed shutoff... I won't have to worry about draining my battery. Which is the main concern.

Mine stayed on overnight and was on the next evening when I walked by the car without my key.

On my 2010 I wired a relay into the power outlet fuse in the engine compartment. That turned the power outlet off when I shut off the car. I haven't done it yet on the 2015 but if you do it this way you don't have to cut any wires and the whole project is at the fuse box nothing under the dash has to be touched.

I'm going to try and figure out exactly how long it stays on for before shutting off. But definitely does. It didn't turn back on until I started the engine this morning.

908ssp, If you get around to doing this on your 2015, please share the details. I would be interested in doing it. I’m a dashcam user.

Page 119 of the user’s manual implies they outlets are always powered.
