Hi all,

I've had my GT for around 6 weeks now, and on a few occasions I have noticed a slight temporary loss of power, usually when changing into 3rd and giving it some welly.

It only happens occasionally and is very difficult to reproduce, but it feels a bit like the engine is starved of fuel (maybe misfiring - hard to tell), like when I open the throttle the fuel pump doesn't react fast enough ?

It could also be likened to what traction control feels like when it kicks in if you pull away too quickly, but I don't think it is that - I have only noticed it happening in 3rd gear, and it's happened on completely dry roads in a straight line.

The power loss lasts for maybe 1-2 seconds, then all is well again. I will have to take it back to the dealer to look at, but first I want to try and nail down the conditions under which it occurs, so they have a chance of reproducing it.

Anyone else have this, or know what it might be ?

thanks

Just so that our resident mechanic(way more knowledgeable people than myself) blokes can help a bit further:

What mode are you driving it in?
Does it have the same effect regardless of what mode you're driving in?
Is the car warmed up?
How many miles have you done total?

May help to find the root cause of the issue, if any.

IIRC some GT owners were noticing a powerloss at some point, can't remember where...

Edit: stark got it ;)

There is a flat spot that a few of us have noticed, which happens in 3rd gear between 2000-3000rpm if you just go full throttle. You are probably experiencing the same thing mate.

I work around it by progressively but fairly quickly open the throttle after gear changes and tbh it all runs smoothly.

Thanks guys, just skimming the other discussion it does look like it's the same thing.

FWIW, I am normally in the standard driving mode, car is warmed up and has 1400 miles. Also I have only ever filled up with Super unleaded (usually Shell V Power).

Anyway, I will go off to study the other 8 pages of that thread in more detail......

Hi there

This is torque management part of the ECU, our cars are full of sensors, so when you apply throttle the ECU checks a load of sensors and if all is reported OK it then opens the throttle the desired amount.

If for any reason the cars ECU thinks it is going to make more power it will limit throttle opening, so yo might command 100% but throttle actual might be limited to 30-50% for 1-2s. It is basically clutch protection stuff and yes for whatever reasons it seems to show the most in 1st and 3rd gear. First gear just go full throttle at 1000rpm and you will notice the car sets off nice and smooth with little wheel spin and once 3000rpm passes it rockets, in 3rd it is more pronounced as you already have momentum so you command 100% throttle and don't get it so you feel it more so, like TC cutting in.

This is the biggest effect a remap has on these cars as the tuner can dial back the torque management safety features to prevent this happening, you can also request the tuner completely switches it off though that is not recommended.

So there is nothing wrong with your car, just drive around it. :)

Thanks Gibbo, a very thorough explanation there. Now that I know what it's trying to do I will try to work around it, as you suggest. Cheers !

In 3rd gear it is most likely to happen between 2000-2800rpm when trying to hit full throttle. The best cure is to roll into the throttle or only go partial throttle first.

Example if you floor it at 1500rpm in 3rd it will fly, if you floor it at 3000rpm it will fly. But if you floor it in between *SOMETIMES* it will feel like TC is limiting power due to throttle not opening fully due to torque management.

So either avoid that region or roll into the throttle. A canned tune like SCT or FRPP (yet to be released) will help greatly and a more custom tune from likes of Lund, JDM etc. will nearly eliminate it completely.

Any chance you could get 8Pack to do ECUs ? :D
Haha no mapping cars is way more then involving especially doing it right as spark and fuelling is just a small percentage, a good tune changes so much more and whilst remaining safe. Plus a lot of it is in binary and hex code you need to know what your looking for and know what to change.
