This has made me think a little.

If I'm honest, I don't think I'd trade my bespoke ordered one for a dealers showroom one even if I could have one tomorrow. Personally, my wait has made the whole 'buying a mustang' decision (& the car itself) more special.

Probably not relevant to the question as such but I think it shows the difference in our actual feelings about the car itself. I'm preparing myself for a non-perfect car & probably service & although I can never justify either, I'm ready cause it's a Mustang..... my Mustang.

Unless you feel this way about them, I fear that you're probably better with another car.

Btw, this doesn't mean that I'm relaxed about my car paddling across the pond at the moment but you get the gist

To be honest when I first saw the new Q7 on the road, it didn't rock my boat. Same could be said for the mustang but was swayed when I found out the Stang has a gt version. Hand on heart how many would've gone for the mustang if it only came in ecoboost?

Have now had a chance with the Q7 and my initial perception somewhat changed. Yes it's a bit bland but it fits our current lifestyle especially ferrying our 2yr old to nursery.

When I had a long test drive of a vert mustang I didn't notice any attention towards the car but bring out the rrs people ask if you're a footballer or on telly - even the mustang dealer and customers present came out to look at the range even though the rrs isn't overly customised. So at present practicality comes first.

So as a fully fledged adult, I'd like to end by saying to Ford that I want my car & I want it now. If I don't get it..... I'm gonna hold my breath until I burst (yes, it's very late, not tired & very bored)

You categorically do not need a Q7 to ferry a 2 year old to nursery.

I think you know the Mustang is not the right car for you. RRS more attention than a Mustang? Tell you what, lets get together sometime, pick a high street and drive through together. I am not a betting man but I would put money on getting more attention.

Not that that is all the car is about. The fact is, its a reasonable priced and built Ford. Probably the sort of car that people with RRS and Q7s buy their kids for their 18th birthday. It aint for you.

I do just wonder however if deep down inside there is a little flame for the Stang. You look at the RRS and yep, you love it. But its a flasf and fast 4wd. The Mustang is a built from the ground up Muscle car. I just wonder if you are looking for us to say "Dont do it, buy the Mustang, you will love it"

Tell you what though.
I get up to London a fair bit. Why dont I pop by and take you out in mine. Its the right car (GT) Roush exhaust (sounds right) and away from the falseness of a sales guy from the dealership.

Yes but i think what is grating for some people who are thinking of ordering or in the ordering process is the apparent poor build quality and customer service. I realise that your average Mustang fan is going to be more precise and demanding than your average Fiesta buyer but i dont see that as an excuse. Maybe this is one of the main reasons people are going to other manufacturers. I realise that a number of people have always dreamed etc of a Mustang and will buy whatever but others need to look at the car objectively (especially if Im trying to persuade my wife!) as circa 36k is still a lot of money.
Having said that going from a Mustang to a Q7 does seem a bit extreme!

Points taken, but I don't buy a car to draw attention from the crowd, instead it's the build quality and comfort that matters and I never once had a second thought about my mustang order until I saw what additional 10k offers.

Yes if my wife could handle a powerful engine, I wouldn't have considered the Q7, but give her a powerful car she'll cause ££££ of damage to the car.

I still want the mustang but poor quality build and lack of information makes it unease.

The issue is when I couldn't give a definitive answer that I still need one in my life. Never thought that would ever be the case.

Dive on to any forum and all cars have problems (Mini, Audi, BMW etc) and yet people still buy those cars and the Mustang because that's what they have their heart set on. Heck I ordered mine when all I had seen was pictures, then saw one for real and it got me even more excited, I got mine and I haven't stopped smiling. If you are not feeling that excitement that you have ordered the mustang then like others have said, it doesn't sound like it's the car for you.

I confess to being unfaithful during the wait too. I've looked at Jags,maserati's and Range Rovers on auto trader to see what could be had today for the same price.

Luckily I was comparing used with new so I was never persuaded away from my Mustang order

Spot on... can't agree more with the above comments!

When I bought my Q7 in 2010 the forums were littered with people complaining about issues with things that had gone wrong, crap service from the sales, aftersales and service departments, and I then found exactly the same on the Skoda forums when I bought my vRS in 2014, and I have no doubt if I'd thought of buying a Jaguar or similar the commentary would be the same there!

These forums represent single points of exchange where concentrated opinions on the good and bad appear en-masse so it's it's always going to look like problems are more common than they really are (IMHO), and there's probably just as many, and likely even more, people who buy Mustangs (for example) that don't post on this or other forums. Ford sold over 100,000 Fiestas in the UK last year but I doubt if more than 1000 of their owners ever went near any forums - so they can't be said to be truly indicative of overall quality.

On a side note, I have to say the new Q7 is one of the most hideous creations ever to be spawned by Ingolstadt, and that, along with the boring and predictable characteristics of all VAG group, and indeed most German cars nowadays, is one of the reasons I'm so looking forward to going back to a Ford (and especially a US made rear wheel drive)... warts and all. Ford have never made the best quality cars on the road, but from my past experience (back to the 80's and early 90's) they were fun to drive... and that's what I'm after once more! The Mustang is, to me, a purchase made by the heart and not the head!
