Apparently Photobucket has lost their damn mind...

They are now charging $400 for 3rd party hosting. I know a lot of us use PB. Clearly they are going to lose a lot of customers.

What other services are you guys using and are you happy with it?

for the forum, I just resize and upload to the forum server. It's the easiest way to do it.

if you want a photo hosting site, just use Flickr. Their compression does not degrade your quality too bad and you can upload at full resolution. They also do not throttle bandwidth like photobucket does.

Yea, I notice this last night and thought it was a scam at first. Well, I'm leaving PB and will try Flickr or as robertwsimpson mentioned, resize and upload I guess.

I also thought it was a hoax or a scam......I received an email from them earlier today.

Surely the only reason people use Photobucket is to link to sites like this?

And the figure they are quoting is a joke

I'm good for going against the grain.... I'm going to do it here as well.

It is $33 a month. If you post a lot of images or run a business, is it worth $33 to have quick/reliable image uploads/hosting, to your favorite websites?

I've used a lot of these services and always return to my own website. My website of course takes a LOT more time but I don't have a lot of images.

The market will speak... it will be interesting to see if other services follow with a paid subscription. We are seeing a lot of websites now asking for payment differently... all have had those annoying ads that most of us block now.

Maybe they will offer coupons and price "specials" as well. I think we have a while to see what their model may look like.

I have a file hosting domain name, so I'm interested in this for different reasons than most.

Might have been nice to give people enough time to move their files, that was a bad move. Obviously, they need to offer something for $33 a month... more than a free service.

Here are their tiers:

Choose the plan that’s right for you and enjoy the premium member benefits.

Plus 50 offers 50 gb of Storage and No Linking or 3rd Party Hosting - $59
Plus 100 offers 100GB of Storage, Unlimited Linking, and No 3rd Party Hosting - $99
Plus 500 offers 500GB of Storage, Unlimited Linking and Unlimited 3rd Party Hosting - $399

Photobucket is very 2007. Flickr has been better for a long time, and is already not as good as it used to be.
I found way back that photobucket was good and then it became as slow as shit. Now with the outrageous charges....... well yu read what I said. :D

The worst part is, they applied this policy to all existing photos. It f-ing sucks with the countless how-to posts that are out on the web that will forever be broken.

No one is going to go back and fix every post they have ever made with pictures hosted from photobucket. It is even difficult now to download your pics from photobucket to move them to another service. You cannot just click on the pic and download it anymore.

I've got the $99 a year plan and third party hosting works fine for me. But I have been using them since 2007 so maybe they grandfathered me in or something.
