This is interesting. Do you not have Brand specific fuel stations with branded top tier gasoline in your area ?
Here in Urban Chicago and Gary IN. area we have brand name refineries where crude is piped into each major distiller. If the fuel doesn’t pass inspection it is sold to discount fuel stations. The fuel that passes is only sold at the name brand fuel station.
We have Chevrons, Shell's, etc., but the base gas is all the same, the only difference between the top tiers is the additive's they add to that base gas. Chevron doesn't pump their gas in the pipeline one day, then Shell the next and so on, they just pump 87 one day and then it get sent to each individual's brand and their additive's get mixed in. I do know that not all the gas that gets pumped doesn't meet higher standards, so that stuff they sell to the no name stations.

I know Wikipedia isn't the best place, but this is a decent overview of how Las Vegas gets their gas, jet fuel, and diesel:

I just know about it because my uncle spent about a decade working for one of the gas companies in town and they had had a bunch of different stations (Chevron, Arco, etc.) that they managed.

Thx Doug.
It wasn’t until about 25 years ago when I was on a project with a group of local 597 fitters when I was told about discounted fuel and how the refineries sell it off to the Speedways, Pilot/FlyingJ’s etc.
Only the stuff that passes inspection goes to Exxon/Mobil, Shell, BP Amoco & Citgo’s. The majority of 7-11’s in this area are Branded fuels, ExxonMobil to be exact.

Sorry ............. You are so wrong on so many counts. Evidently you need to quit going into dealers with an apparent chip on your shoulder. Just my .02
Well, well.

Touche', my comments should not have been a blanket one, and I should have pointed out the specific Dealer in question. However, I felt that would have been poor form.

Alas, I will refrain from blanket statements or suggestions in the future.

If you are having an issue with a specific dealer, say so. Your comment was a blanket condemnation of the entire network.

Mickey is just a little grumpy waiting for his new car. :cwl:
I'm fine. It is his condemnation of dealers in a former post that I have issues with. Granted, there are dealers world wide that need to have their tag pulled. However, as long as they are meeting certain numbers, Ford will not step in. Nor for that matter will any other mfg.

I'll be a little ray of Sunshine here... the salesman put 93 Octane in my Shelby for the initial fill up.

I certainly hope so as 91 is required by Ford. The dealer would be liable for any damage to the motor if it could be shown that 87 was used.

The salesman rode with me to the Shell Station carrying his dealership gas card and pumped the fuel for me. Not only did he chose the 93 Octane, he also dribbled the last few drops from the nozzle back into the filler neck so no droplets of fuel contacted the paint.
The droplets of fuel on the paint would not have bothered me since it went directly home for 13 glorious hours of paint correction and detailing. I appreciated his efforts!
