Going FI soon. I know it’s riskier than NA and I’m going to mitigate by installing opg/cs, catch can, but mostly by being careful how I drive and not hammer on it constantly and not until warm, etc. But my biggest worry is that sooner or later someone at a repair shop will take it for a “test drive” and undo a lot of my good intentions. Am I being overly paranoid or do folks with FI who don’t do all the wrenching themselves have special precautions? I’m going to pick the shops with care but there’s only so much you can do. OBD tracker? Cameras? Trust your luck?

put a dash cam in. tell the shop its in there and pick reputable shops and i would imagine you would be fine.

On the 15-17 Whipple you can toggle a valet mode that limits power. On the 18+ you can swap the iat2 to the “wrong” imrc connector and it cuts it down to about 25% power or less. That’s my plan.

That will help. I wish MyKey had rev limiting. I thought about some OBD device (logging? GPS?)...I should ask people who rent their cars on Turo. And let the shop know all of this. The main thing is to discourage some techs who might otherwise love to check out a boosted Coyote with no consequences...

I'm not aware of a valet mode unless you mean using flight control to reduce power in all gears to -25%. That's what I do if I have to go to any shop, but I typically do all my own work. With all gears -25%, the car feels almost like stock, maybe a touch faster.

Swapping the IAT2 connector will cut out a lot of timing advance, but won't limit throttle or boost. I'm not sure that's a good solution. Do the 18+ Whipple tunes not have flight control?

I think MyKey can prevent traction control from being turned off which should limit the amount of fun they can have. I haven't tried setting that up.

The 18+ do not have flight control, but they do have a logic check to make sure the iat2 is connected correctly. If it isn’t, within 30 seconds or so of starting the car, the pcm kills the power. It’s drivable but takes about 75% throttle just to accelerate at a slow pace. This was intentional by Whipple and a feature of later cals because some were plugging the iat2 into the wrong imrc connector.

Or use a shop you trust

At the shop I worked at we would NEVER EVER hammer on people’s cars

If a customer needed to check something under throttle we would ride with them or throw it on the dyno

Beating on people’s car is totally unprofessional

I wish I could find one easily. If only I lived in Philly....

If you have a custom tune from like Lund, AED, VMP, Etc you can have them write you a valet tune. That's what I've been doing anytime I've had to drop off my procharged stang at the dealer or other shop. Additionally with procharger since it has a dedicated blower belt you can just remove the belt and drive it, that way it is impossible to get into boost (I call that the "No boost for you" setup). Obviously this is not possible with any other supercharger since they all are powered by the accessory drive. I highly recommend getting a valet tune though.

That’s genius. I’m going pd so can’t as you say but that’s a brilliant solution.

Can you have a canned (Whipple) tune and a custom that can be swapped via nGauge? Sorry newbie question. A totally neutered custom tune (bypass never closes?) would do it. But the -25% in Flight Control may be good enough...

Well if you shell out the money for a custom tune you won't need the canned whipple tune as the custom tune will be better, performance and drivability-wise. Not sure if it's possible to save the canned whipple tune as your stock tune and load it via an ngauge or SCT device.

You can not down load the Whipple Tune to a Ngauge.Whipple has it blocked because I have tried.

Ah well.

Apparently the Tomahawk device has “valet mode” though I’m unsure how it differs from a global -25% in Flight Control. It might be something the 18+ Whipple owners have if they don’t have FC yet.

Tell me about it, I have a window switch that just sort of broke off and now the passenger window goes slightly down and up as if someone was opening the door randomly and its annoying as hell. I am absolutely terrified to take it to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty but its pretty annoying so I don't have a choice.
