Sup,

I was driving my new GT350 home from the dealer and got a nice big rock chip on the top of my car... I’m looking into painting the whole roof black now as I wanted it as an option but it doesn’t come on the Heritage edition 350. Does anyone have any close up shots for the paint line on the OEM painted roof option? I have the paint code but want to make sure we get the line correct compared to OEM. I also don’t want to wrap, not a fan.

Thanks!

The OE colour is shadow black that actually has a blue pearl in it :like:

I can’t see or feel a paint line on mine, it’s down in the panel seams

Yeah the lines along the rain gutter are hidden, but if I go to the area where the line comes out of the rain gutter, down the corner and behind the front (or rear) screen, you can squeeze a finger in the gap and feel a line :like:

You can see the area I am referring to on my first photo :like:

Interesting, so I’m assuming they fully paint the cars on the line and then pull them aside mask and paint the roofs black. Then only clear the spot they paint black and hide the new paint and clear line in the rain gutter. I was wondering if they actually scuffed and cleared the whole rear quarter again after they painted the roofs black but I guess not.

I'm sure I read on here that the cars (shells ?) were pulled off the line and then the black roofs painted 'manually'.

Again, I think I read on here that earlier on in the production years, it was something that added considerably to the build time ?

Just to be clear on something I wrote "Yeah the lines along the rain gutter are hidden" - I suspect it's still a raised line, but its hidden in the respect that's in the gutter and difficult to feel :like:

I see. I was just wondering how they did the clear after they painted the black roof. I’m no painter but I thought they would have to scuff and re clear the rear quarter and a pillar after painting it black so no clear seam wouldn’t be seen but what do I know lol

I would assume they would feather the clear transitions into a seamless finish. Work the would be completed after clearing.

Edit - I just looked and there shouldn't be a need to do anything to an A-Pillar or quarter panel.... you would just follow the existing roof lines and tape everything off. The transitions would be down in the "grooves" as previously mentioned by WD Pro.

If G1 is shadow black with the faint blue / green metallic flake in it then yes, that’s what the factory painted mine :like:

Courtesy of cheap Ford paint...

Man that sucks, I'd be livid...

But just so you know, there is a provision in the Owner's Manual for "environmental fallout" for paint issues for the first 12Mos or 12k miles (whichever comes first). Obviously being impacted by road debris is not "environmental fallout" but show your Dealer and see if they can get it covered under that provision. It's worth a try, what's the worse they do, say no?

Yeah G1 is the code as per Motorcraft chart. This is also the code that was obtained from the computer when I got a spray can made up.
