Well, maybe. I thought the S197 ones looked ok. The S550 body shape isn't as conducive to having these on the back, and yes, as you said, the spoiler is pretty much deactivated. Or maybe not - at around 100 mph or so, mother nature might step in and free the louvres to fly away and restore full function to the spoiler.
My formative car years were the 70's and rear window louvers were the cool thing to have on your Mustang back then. I've been wanting to and thinking about adding them since I got back into Mustangs 10 years ago and finally did it. I wasn't thinking about anything but the cool factor (at least to me) when I made the decision to get them.
Thank you for all of the positive comments!

I personally despise these on anything built past 1987 and although the paint looks well applied, it's jacking up any aero benefits your swing was providing you.
I would have agreed with you but then Anderson Composites came out with their Mach 1 hood which is likely aerodynamically bad but damn if it doesn't give a retro look.

In other words, it's not meant to be practical. It's meant to look cool. And I have to say, the painted louvers with white stripes looks pretty great.

If looks are all that matter then my comment only partially applies.

I never said they ruined fuel mileage, you don't have the 2019+ Swing on your GT, but if you can't understand that the louvers are getting in the way of the airflow that is designed to flow through the bottom of the wing part of the Swing then I can't help you.

You're allowed to absolutely love the look of these plastic monstrosities covering the back windows of far too many muscle cars as much as I'm allowed to absolutely despise them. Especially these new "angry louvers" with all their angles and wedges. The only thing worse are the fake plastic "diffuser strakes" that everyone seems to be bolting to their cars.

To be fair the S197 looked like it was designed in 1987 or earlier. Also accurate on the shocking amount of posts I see online about these things self-deleting themselves on the interstate.

Setting aside Major Killjoy's comments...

Where did you get the louvers?

I've been thinking about this for a while and finally pulled the trigger. I bought some aluminum louvers and had them color matched to the car. I think they turned out great!
