I can't see myself Driving a manual in the city. I feel like I would be frustrated real quick.

I did it for a year in crazy Atlanta rush hour traffic and now do it around Detroit every day. It really isn't bad at all.

I had a manual 350Z and holy crap I was getting pissed off every day.

Probably because my University was right smack on top of a very steep hill in San Francisco, and the cars clutch was so "catchy" that I couldn't even properly e-brake launch it up the hill when dealing with stop lights.

I do wish I could have gotten a manual, but at least an auto V8 isn't too bad, has a bit of an old school charm to me.

Definitely better than the CVT WRX I was going to buy.

So I had to make a compromise with on this car and get the paddles instead of a stick, and I drive mine with the paddles almost full time. It really isn't that bad once you get used to them and they run pretty much like the wifes Audi previously and some other cars. a few things to note

I drive it in S mode all the time;

-The car will not up shift unless you hit the paddle for it to engage the paddles. It will go all the way to the redline and back down and doesn't shift up.

-The car will ABSOLUTELY down shift once the RPMs get too low for the engine to manage, around 1000 rms or so. I often do not down shift lower than 3rd when coming to a complete stop. It will shift all the way to first on its own.

-The car will not down shift on its own unless you get to a super low RPM - on rolling stops if you don't manually down shift into the next lower gear it will stay in 3rd or 2nd. This is awesome if you hit instant traffic. I have gotten annoyed at forgetting to hit the lower paddle on a creeping stop somewhere in mexico.

This car isn't a DCT transmission like you have in the Audi, BMW, or other spendy labels but it is still pretty damn good and shifts way better than the Audi we had that had a ZF type trans in it. Ford made a pretty damn good product - but remember it is an auto trans and not DCT.

Thats my .02... for what its worth.

Driving in city traffic with traffic jams all day long with a stick is tiresome. I chose the automatic because of that, although it´s more engaging to drive a car with a stick. This subject has probably been discussed since the birth of man though...to stick shift or not...

My question is: Are you guys/girls satisfied with the automatic gearbox in the Mustang? I only had the opportunity to test-drive a 'Stang with the manual. Ordered my car with auto though.

The 6R80 automatic is a great trans. Built like a tank. And if the 1/4 mile is your thing... its perfect.

Being a life long stick guy here - yeah - the trans is a-ok in this thing, it feels rock solid and shifts as it should. I do some spirited lane changes from time to time, uhem, and it does everything I ask it to!

I am happy so far!

I noticed that both of you guys chose DIB as the color for your cars. Great choice it seems! :D

The auto cars are faster in a straight line if you just put the shiftier in S and don't touch the paddles so that car shifts for itself. The paddles are really only useful for curves or making exhaust noise.
I've been doing that, but it just redlines right away and I have to let off the gas a little for it to then shift into second. I don't know if it's not shifting because the tires are spinning, or maybe something with the tune changed the 1st gear shift point.

Even though it's not as fun, I don't mind easing into it. I've just seen quite a few people that have said throw it in D or S and punch it and you'll be good. Hasn't been the case with mine so far.

Have you ever driven a new car with a ZF 8AT? It is leaps and bounds better than than 6AT in the Mustang. The ZF8 is a damn fast non-DCT transmission, and that's what my last car had. The 6AT in the Mustang is quite slow.

Why yes in fact, yes I have. We (the wife and I) drove and have driven quite a few.

I agree it is a much faster shifting trans - what I did say is the mustang certainly doesn't have that or any of the euro tranies - but it sure seems to do just fine..

I am not so certain "leaps and bounds" is quite the description I would use, but a 200 ms shift time is significant and it certainly is a big difference - but its still an AT and not DCT.

Would certainly be a much better build with a DCT or other such trans!
