does anyone know how to get better at the paddle shifters with the 10 speed because that's a lot of gears and if there's a way you can hurt your car using the paddles

They are fun to play with but for serious driving I find letting the tranny do it’s own thing works best. Soooo much better than the old A6.

look into some extensions, MMD makes some carbon fiber one’s. Makes it easier for you ;) I am sure there’s others (companies out) whom make some as well. The ECU won’t let you screw up and will override you so it doesn’t damage anything vital to your transmission/ engine.

Ditto.

That said if you autocross or do other serious driving where you will be only using a few of the 10 ratios then there are some things to keep in mind and PRACTICE.

1) Be sure you are using the end of the paddles and not trying to pull at the hinge. An autocross co-driver initially couldn't get the trans to shift until I saw that his long fingers reached to the hinge end of the paddle.

2) Don't "hold" the paddle. Do a quick "pull and release". Otherwise you might hold it long enough to take it out of manual shifting.

3) Downshifts at too high a speed for the target gear won't happen but you must pull the paddle again once the car slows enough. Better to wait until late in the braking zone to downshift.

4) Don't let the engine "hit the rev limiter" before you pull the paddle. Hitting the limiter drastically slows the shift. Basically for shifts from first and second "short shifting" at about 7k is good.

5) In any situation where you will be moving the steering wheel rapidly as in autocross keep in mind that it is easy to hit a paddle as you re position your hands.

6) I've found that in any autocross or street situation where there is a tight turn immediately after starting to move it is better to start in second so I don't have to deal with an upshift while the paddle is hard to reach.

My right paddle is a touch sticky. I don't mean like through the shifting mechanics, like it seems sticky right behind the paddle. I'm assuming the pad/rubber/etc., behind it is causing this - I'm going to spray some mild general household cleaner onto a towel and see if I can kind of "floss" behind the paddle. Left paddle is snappy fast - and I mean the right has just a touch of delay (again, on the physical paddle/lever itself).

Anyone else have this?

I love using my paddle shifters, especially when doing some pulls but i have had times where I'll have it in sports and hold a gear and RPMS will be around 4k and after a while when i get out I'll smell something.

I drove both and own the A6. I found the low speed performance of the A10 really annoying and shifted too often comparedto my A6, but would be great for the drag strip. Its fast. The A6 is just very well balanced with beautiful downshifts in sport+ mode.

after the canned tune from my sct, the downshift on mine is horrible... 3rd from 2nd and specially 2nd to 1st... on Sport or Sport+ on auto mode is terrible... you feel you are gonna hit the windshield lol... i hope lund fix that issue when i do the flex tune for my mods

I almost never downshift into 1st in the A10... same when I had the 6 in my 2015. The downshift from 3 to 2 in the A10 is almost as rough as 2 to 1 in the A6.

Side note... I wish the paddles were connected at the steering wheel and not the column so they moved with the wheel.

I pretty much never use the paddles. They just aren't enjoyable to me, and the 10 speed shift logic in track and sport+ is so good I don't really need to. The paddles are a little slow to respond, don't feel high quality (nothing that can't be fixed aftermarket), 10 gears makes it easy to forget what gear you're in, and simply selecting gears wasn't the part about driving a manual I enjoy. The thing I like about driving a manual is interacting with the clutch and the actual motion of rowing through the gears. Being in whatever gear I want is a nice side effect, but the 10 speed kicks down so fast I don't really have any issues with letting the transmission do it's thing.
