Yesterday I drove up to Whataburger to have dinner with my daughter. When we left, about a minute after starting the car while sitting at a traffic light I turned on the headlights and almost immediately the check engine light comes on. Nothing appears wrong otherwise; engine is idling fine, revving fine, gaugues are all ok so I drive home which is only a couple of miles.

I went out with the OBD2 link to find that code, and when snooping around under the hood to see if any wires had come undone or otherwise damaged I figured I'd check the oil....and its more than 2 quarts down. WTF?? Also the exhaust tips look pretty sooty.

SO...maybe two unrelated issues, maybe not. I figure since its only got 23k I'll fill up the oil and drop it off at Ford.

Thoughts?

May be a bad alternator. Good luck.

I'd be more concerned about the missing two quarts depending on how long since your last oil change.
