2017 Mustang GT FBO catless E85 @~79,000 miles. I have the SCT tuner device with Ortiz tune.

I was cruising on the highway this morning (4/12/23), gave it some gas and the car misfired and loss power badly, service manual light came on. I pulled into a gas station. I connected my OBD2 scan tool and shows P0300 random misfire and a cylinder 6 misfire. The other codes are old, stable, and have been there since the mods and cat delete. I turned the car off and turned it back on after a few minutes. The car ran smooth and fine even WOT and no issues.

After researching I learned that sometimes this could be a timing issue and that the crank position sensor over time can be off by a certain number of degrees leading to this. I’m aware that sometimes that sensor needs to be replaced but before paying the dealer to diagnose that I was considering doing a crank relearn to see if that would help. The fact I just turned the car off and back on seemed to fix the issues makes me further thing it’s a sensor/computer/timing issue.

However when just about to do this I saw this step and hesitated. My mechanic that did the work on the car encouraged me to reach out to Ortiz so I did and that response is pending. I don’t feel comfortable doing this unless I know my rev limiter can be turned back up and my idol back up to where my current parameters are. We raised my idol bc the car was dying and stalling at idol (and I think it’s bc of that GT350 throttle body). However after raising the idol it seemed to control that issue - hence why I need to know that those parameters can be returned…. And of course I don’t want a stick rev limit. I’m not here to talk about the stalling at idol, that’s an issue I just let go with my tuner since we found a way to manage it (by raising my idol).

Should I proceed with the crank relearn? And is this step required of everyone who does this? Thank you for recommendations.

I had that happen on mine after a clutch install P0300, 0301 (or 0303) 0304 and 0307. I did the crank relearn with my nGauge and it took care of the problem.

You’re really good about replying to my posts haha I appreciate that. I just got caught off guard by step 2. I don’t want to return the rev limiter to stock and the idol to stock like WTH. Did you have to do that? So I’m just gonna wait to see what Ortiz says. My dad said they used to have to change those sensors on dump trucks all the time for the city of Tulsa. They’d take them out, clean them, put them back in, tighten them all the way until they touch, then back them off a quarter turn. Of course dump trucks didn’t have A custom tune lol

NP. I didn’t have to change my Rev limiter and Idle back to stock. You’re making a good decision to check with your tuner before proceeding. Keep us posted.
