P-018C-00 pressure sensor code, No CEL

So… i finally downloaded all the modules for my scanner for the mustang.. and found a p018c-00 code lurking in the powertrain module, but it never came up in the generic obd2 scan i did when i bought the car.

car runs fine.. no CEL..

The only thing it DOES do is stutters a bit when the fan turns on ay idle….

SO…. Bad Sensor…. Or bad pump or Bad Regulator??????

and…. Why isn’t it throwing a check engine light?????

Should I park it until i get it fixed??

The generic scanners won't detect anything but generic DTC codes. Apparently the P018C code isn't a generic code. I believe the reason it's not showing up as a "Check Engine" light is because it's not an emissions fault. If I understand the literature regarding the "Check Engine" light the only codes that cause it to set are emissions related. The fuel pressure isn't considered emissions related. My 2 cents.

Without knowing what the fuel pressure problem is I'm not sure if I'd drive the car or not. If the fault means pressure lower than expected you'll most likely have problems at WOT or heavy acceleration. If this is the case I wouldn't be afraid to drive it. In time you'll have problems at light acceleration, cruise, idle, or just staring. If the fault means pressure higher than expected you may have no drivability problems but you may risk blowing out a fuel line and a fire. I wouldn't want to be driving the car if this happens.

There was a TSB regarding a sensor for the Fuel System on the older Gen 6s. It recommended replacing one of the sensors on the fuel lines. I replaced mine a few years ago when I saw the TSB. This may be the issue you're experiencing but I can't remember the TSB number. Search through the EcoBoob TSBs for the for Fuel System or Fuel Pressure. You should find the sensor that had problems on the older cars. It may help, it may not.

Well….. changed the sensor.. had the “BA” sensor, new part was the CA sensor…

code is gone..

but more interestingly…

Gas mileage went up 2.5 mpg over 500 miles!!!

Just saw this or I would’ve told you to swap out your low pressure fuel sensor. Mine failed too and I didn’t have a CEL. I didn’t even know until my tuner told me about it.
