I’ve asked my dealer for a status update and received the screenshot below. It shows a manual car - I’ve ordered the automatic - with silver wheels - I didn’t specifically order these. I’m not too concerned with the above as I think I’ve seen other threads where UK cars don’t have the correct equipment info as it’s generic. What I’d like confirming if possible is the estimated build date of the beginning of October. Is this just an automatic system generated date based on the order date or is it fairly accurate ?

I would defo check the transmission, all my details were correct.

Maybe I got lucky, but I only truly relaxed once the window sticker was issued :like:

Yeah, I won’t be at ease until I see the window sticker.
FWIW, I’ve emailed the UK Dealer Assistance Centre for confirmation of the ordered build.

When I placed my order I got a print out of the my spec and a deposit confirmation slip.
When I have seen and have a copy of the above screen from dealer, my spec is shown how i wanted my car made. - This is normal, what you are saying is abnormal, what you see is the car that will be made by flat rock.
  1. Never make assumptions on what you read from other people, processes & understanding changes.
  2. If it's not correct flag it with the provider of the goods in writing when you become aware of it.
This would be my concern, you placed an order for spec ABC, however according to this bulid sheet, it is not what you requested. This is a major problem.

You should have a invoice of the car you ordered with your spec, they print it out in store and give it to you. This has the price at the time of sale, est. delivery window, interest rate, deposit etc. If you don't have this I would be very concerned.

The problem is this order is committed, that means they cannot change anything on this car. only way of changing something would be to make a new order for spec you wanted. Order bank has closed, dealers cannot reschedule/change anything.

  • Either this isn't your order or something has happened and they need to resolve it. - Lets hope its not your order they have sent you as simplest resolution.
  • As long as you have an invoice with the spec you wanted, I'm sure it will be fine. However if you don't then it will be an entirely different story. - If you have this you could argue (but is not a guarantee they will change it) for an exception as you can prove fault.
  • If you dont have an invoice or they can't change it even if it proven it's wrong It is possible the easiest and most likely option is for the dealer is just to cancel this since the suppler will be unable to make changes and just refund you any money paid. If you don't want to cancel, ask for a major discount.
Time frame for production:

Production time, I placed my order in Q3 21, got an allocation in early 22, production dates changed every month with it finally being built not long ago, estimated to be here at the earliest mid oct but likely to be here Nov/Dec.

  • It would of been faster to get a DBS superleggera built.

Ford has a huge backlog of orders, speculation growing that some of the orders will be cancelled. aren't many scheduling windows left before production ends. However a few Australian GT's have been marked to be made for around this date your screen is showing, so probably will be made in this batch.

Screenshot of the order form below showing the Model as: Mustang 5.0 V8 449 GT 2dr Auto Petrol Coupe
After that is the options ordered. Although it doesn’t specifically list the Auto as an option, I assumed that this was because on the UK configurator at the time you had to choose between a manual car and an automatic car then go on to choose colour and other options. I’ve still no idea where the silver forged wheels come into it as they were part of an option pack - off the top of my head I think it was Custom Pack 4 - which I didn’t select and isn’t on the order form.

This is a similar shot I got from their computer about two weeks after I ordered, looks like the same screen but in a slightly different (maybe older) format :

That was all correct, it's what appeared on my window sticker and what I received.

I will check my order wording when I am at home later :like:

It clearly says here your order is for an AUTO - if you asked for a manual it would say manual.

That dealer screenshot isn't this order - or they have inputted it wrong on the system. Ask them to check this again, send an email back asking them if this is the correct order with the mis-matching information.

- Highlight all the issues you see/are aware off & ask any questions you have in the back of your head, get a confirmation back in writing and action it as based on the response.
If you don't want to wait for a response after sending you can do this send the email, give them a call, send another email documenting the call

I’ve emailed the salesperson with my query/concerns etc. I’ve also tried calling twice but they’re apparently “very busy with customers”. In the meantime I’ve also emailed Ford DAC to which I received a very quick response asking for the dealer code and order number which I’ve replied to and I’m now waiting for their findings.

The Sales Manager has just called and confirmed that yes, there has been an error and the car is currently scheduled to be built with the manual gearbox. They’re working behind the scenes to resolve this and get the order changed but he was honest enough to state that it may not be a quick and easy process if it can be changed at all at this point in time. I probably won’t know more until next week now so it’s going to be a long few days…..
To be fair he did suggest a plan b and also a plan c as backups in the worst case scenario but they are compromises so I’m hoping for the best.

Cheers. I’ll end up with ‘a’ car so it’s not all doom and gloom. I’ve just got to keep a positive outlook.

Out of curiosity What options did they present to you ?

Hinted at:
Discount if I take the car I ordered as is
Or
Looking for a car with similar options in the dealer network either already landed or due to land. Hinted again that if something suitable can be found then a discount.
I’ve no idea what the hinted at discounts may be as we didn’t get into that.
During my last conversation with the sales manager he did seem to think that he may be able to get my order corrected but an email which I received from Ford DAC earlier in the day suggested that it was too late for that. However, the car is scheduled for production on the 4th October which is a full month away, which I would have thought gave them ample time to adjust the build. So, who knows ? I’ll have to wait and see what next week brings…..

Once it’s committed they usually won’t change it, as it’s looked in, if it actually had a build date it would have a vin and say scheduled, the date it has is a guess date when it’s ordered

I thought it was a guess date because, as you say, no VIN. But, I’m no expert, I was going off what the dealership said initially. But I wasn’t convinced, hence my original question. I’m just going to have to wait and see how this pans out but at least it’s only a few more days until I have an answer. Hopefully…. fingers crossed…. touch wood.
