I second the importance of keeping metals similar. Doing aluminized steel with the OEM 409 stainless will just rust out due to metal dissimilarity and heat accelerated oxidation (rust).

I did 2.5" stainless first but I found some odd harmonic issues around 3,500 rpm. I then went with 3" and found a loss in throttle reposnce due to the larger volume slowing exhaust velocity.

I finally went with 2.75" and it was perfect... I then traded my GT350 car and got a GT350R with the OEM 2.75" pipe without resonators. I can say (having owned both) that the 2.75" 409 stainless pipe is an EXACT match to the RT350R sound. No odd harmonic issues like with 2.5" pipe.

I had to buy my 2.75" 409 stainless pipe off eBay for like $50. Then paid $50 to have it welded in. $100 and a perfect R sound.
So consensus to get as close to the R as possible is to go with 2.75 409 stainless steel pipe? Anywhere other than Ebay to get this?

I used EBay for mine. As you only need like 5-6’.
But I was able to call around and find a local shop that carries it. any high end exhaust shop might have it.

the important part is who welds it in needs to use stainless welding wire. Many cheap shops use carbon steel welding wire and it will rust out in a few years if they don’t use stainless.
The OEM exhaust is actually stainless steel so you want to have the shop use stainless welding wire. It costs more, but will be done right.

Leaving this here if any GT350 owner is looking to replicate the R. I first tried a shifteck x-pipe and it sounded great up top but not like the R. It was almost too raspy down low. I then switched to the LTH X-pipe sold by Steeda and to my ears it is an exact match (as you’d expect with LTH using the same diamater tube of 2.75). Similar revs at the 9 second mark. Hopefully this helps someone! 😊

Who's done it?

Who's gonna do it?

Who's not doing it (and why)?
I'm not doing it. Don't want the rasp, I don't want that high pitched trumpet sound. A simple NxtStep axleback was perfect.
