NT05 tires?

Does anyone use Nitto NT05 tires for a daily driver in the Northeast? How do they handle cold and rain during the winter months? Would they be better or worse than the stock Pirelli Summer tires? I'm curious about the NT555 G2's as well, but I believe they are a summer tire?

Niether of those tires are good in the cold and rain. The nto5 are drag radials and would be a accident waiting to happen on wet roads. If your looking for a good all season check out continental dws 06, I have a set and love them!

The NT05R (http://www.nittotire.com/race-tires/nt05r-dot-compliant-competition-drag-radial-tire/) is the drag radial and I can't say how they are in the rain or cold, but obviously no drag radial is designed for this kind of weather. I did run MT ET Street II's on a previous Mustang and they were actually ok in the rain, all things considered.

The NT05 (non R http://www.nittotire.com/passenger-tires/nt05-max-performance-tire/ ) is a max performance street tire. I recently purchased a set for my 2015 GT and they've been fine. I've been caught with them in some wet weather a few times already and they were fine. No issues at all. Previous to these I had MT Sport Comps. They were also fine in the wet.

No max performance summer tire (and certainly no drag radial) should ever be used in cooler/cold temps. The compounds used to make these tires grippy on a warm track will harden and become incredibly slippery when subjected to cold temperatures. You are better off with 555G2 than 05.

My buddy actually had better wear on the street with the nt05r surprisingly. He barely got 5k out of the 05’s and he’s around 8k on the r’s. Neither of those tires are made for wet weather tho.

Traction will not be good at anything below 45°. And it will be weak at 45°-55°. I run them, but my mustang is not a DD. I drive it every chance I get though, even in cold temps. You just have to be mindful.

I had NT05's on my 331 fox. it doesn't rain often in socal but when it does the roads are slick as hell. that being stated I never had issue when it did rain with them. car started rolling and stopped with no issues sliding whatsoever. also my white car tipped the scales at 2800 and some change, I hat 255's up front and 315's in the rear and she did not hydroplane on the freeway either and the car is a manual.

They're not going to be a high mileage tire, but you should get more out of them then the NT05's. I had them on the rear and picked up a bolt and went to the 555G2's and I'll go back to the Invo's next time.

do you have a budget? you can get MPSS or MPS4S. those are great daily driving tires with decent tread life. or the popular firehawk indy500

For dry and warm weather the NT05/R are awesome but when it gets cold and wet its a slip and slide.

NT555G2 is a good all around driving tire.

I've had invos for about 14k miles out back. 295/35/20
They handle n/a power but can't launch worth a crap. Wet traction doesn't exist in 2nd gear, cold and wet means you'll spin the top of 3rd. Going to be looking elsewhere when they wear out, I'd stay away for cold weather if I were you

Thanks everyone. What would you guys suggest for a daily driver performance tire that can handle cold and rain? Something budget friendly too. I know it's a lot to ask from a tire haha
