Your choice of course. Remember that you started at 28 and only achieved 30-31 at the end. So midway through the course you would probably be at 29.
I figured that's about where it should be. At least on autocross anyway, those Michelins do not like to be inflated very high, you'll just blow the treads off. Surface dependent of course. Some are considerably better than others.

I was at Autobahn yesterday with sunny weather and temps in the mid-upper 80's. I started at 32 cold and would get to 36-37 hot. That seemed to get me a good wear pattern on the tire.

Some more comments on tire pressures, what the dealers or flat rock put in them.

1) look at your tires on the sidewall and see that they are rated for 51 psi max.. So at 40 psi, they have not been hurt, by the dealer or flat rock.

2) The more air pressure you run, the higher the load capacity of the tire (see tire pressure vs load capacity at the manufacturers web site ... most usually post they information. When needed this helps during heavy braking and hard corning due to weight transfer. I would submit that maybe the factory ships the cars with a higher pressure to increase the rigidity when the car is tied down.

3) The Ford manual guidance is probably very valid, but if one really starts pushing the car to its limits, a higher pressure may be of benefit.
