I'm not too big on people comparing the Ecoboost Mustangs to the SVOs. The SVOs were a upgrade to the GT with improved brakes, suspension, etc. The Ecoboost isn't an upgrade to the GT.

It is if you compare it to a 2010 and older GT.:headbang:

They were an alternative to the GT, with more emphasis on poise and handling than straight line acceleration. There is a very good reason to compare the two and don't think Ford wasn't tipping their hat to the SVO when they opened up the engine's displacement to 2.3 liters. It is every bit the successor.

The offerings were much more limited in 1984 when the SVO made its debut. Keep in mind that there was a TurboGT mixed in there too, and a GT350 anniversary car that was available with the 2.3T. However, the SVO was the max effort 2.3T.

There was a $5000 premium over the GT. There were many things upgraded on the SVO over the GT. It was an upgrade. The Turbo GT would be a better comparison to the Ecoboost because it was just a GT with a 2.3 turbo.

You're one of those people who put Cobra emblems on their GTs, aren't you?
No, but I was probably the first person to put an '84 style SVO sticker on my EB. I have owned 3 SVOs, how many have you had? It is just a tip of the hat to the legacy of the car. I was hoping, like many others, that Ford would resurrect the name.

I've had my one for 10 years, soaking up knowledge from plenty other Turboforders and SVO enthusiasts along the way. I think it would have been cool if they had brought back an SVO successor, but IMO there there isn't as big enough of a difference between the Ecoboost and GT to bring back the nameplate. There are a lot of Mustang guys who think the SVO is just a 4 cylinder Mustang with a body kit. I'm shocked at how many Fox body guys ask about my "5 lug conversion."

I looked at a triple black PP EB at the dealer and it reminded me so much of my friends 86 SVO back in the day. With the PP I call this car damn close to the spirit of the original. If I bought (which I still may) I would also customize the rear emblem to say SVO in GT style letters.

Here is mine, it was my first mod. I am not an SVO purist, I modded all of mine and pounded on them mercilessly. I was also around when they were new. My first car was an '86 TurboCoupe, in 1986.

I think you hit on why I don't necessarily have a problem with the SVO nameplate. While I've had quiet a few Mustangs, I never had an SVO, but always wanted one. To this day I am surprised at the number of "Mustang" enthusiasts that have no idea of the history or background of the car, except for "V8's."

While I wouldn't put one on my own car, I do recognize the positive side-effect of opening the discussion to a whole generation (or two) that have no idea Mustangs ever came in anything but V8 (somewhat hyperbolic, because of course everyone also knows they had a V6 - but for a very long time the V6 wasn't up to snuff).

If you mod it to where it puts a hurtin' on the V8 cars like the SVO used to do back in the he day, that would be pretty cool.

My SVO is well modded, both with aftermarket and modded stock components, and it has taken quite a thrashing from me. ;) Up until it went into hibernation in my garage, it could hold its own against a lot of the cars in my area.
