No voice directions after beginning trip.

When beginning a trip and after entering a POI, the voice announces the usual "obey all traffic laws, yada yada", but there are no further announcements. I checked settings, and it is set correctly. Where do I go from here?

There is a speaker icon that has to be pressed to mute/unmute the navigation voice lady. I call her Karen.

That did the trick. The icon only pops up for a few seconds, so I missed it. I hope it remembers it as the default setting. Thanks again.
