True. Driving a manual does not make you those things OR more a car guy. It makes you all those things AND more a car guy.

Way back before the dawn of time I had a 53 MG and a 66 Porsche 911. Those cars were a real test of your driving and shifting skills. The MG required constant gear changes and steering corrections, even driving straight. The Porsche was really light in the front end, had no torque, extremely difficult to maintain rpms on a shift and oversteered like mad. Take your foot of the gas at the wrong time and it swapped ends. Going over 40 mph on a curvy road with either required big balls.

But I stopped driving modern cars with manual transmissions because shifting was just a chore the car could do better without my help. The thrill was gone. About the only thing that comes close to matching the experience of driving that old iron is a Morgan 3 wheeler.
