So I have a 2017 GT and we have a 1/8 mile drag strip here and would like to start going casually. My car is stock other than the previous owner doing a muffler delete and I have firehawk indy 500s instead of the stock tire. so was curious on what upgrades would be most beneficial at first for someone starting out as well as any general tips. Also the car is an auto.

Drag radials for an automatic. Slicks for a manual. Then start adding power.

I agree DR's will help the most, a high stall torque converter will also help a lot I believe once you are dead hooking with the DR's.

Should I stick to the stock size at first until I start adding more power? I have the black accent package so I have the 19 inch wheels but not the staggered setup.

I would recommend getting 2 17inch drag wheels and then 17 inch drag radials so you can swap them on when you want to hook or go to the strip.

Well after radials what is a good place to start power wise?

If your looking for big power. A supercharger. If your looking for a fun little street car. An e85 tune, headers and a high stall converter will have you scraping high 10. And will make for a formidable street strip set up.

avoid an intake... just add a drop in K&N filter... (this from a JLT CAI owner)

if you are keeping your intake manifold stock, just do an e85 tune with cat deletes... headers are nice but a shit load of money... (cheap cheap headers= $1000-$1200 parts and labor... cat delete $500 max all together... so, that's extra $500-700 for a tune or the wheel/tires set)
