What’s up everyone,

I have been a long-time lurker on the forum and decided it’s time to make my first post! It’s a Wheel & Tire question and, also a suspension one so hopefully I can get some great feedback from you guys. I can always post the suspension part over in the dedicated area if asking it here isn't aloud.

So, I have a 2020 Kona Blue PP1 GT and all though I love the 19” pp1 wheels, it’s time to upgrade with a new look. So, my wheel of choice is the Velgen VF5, Bronze finish…I think paired with the Kona Blue these things are going to look awesome. I’ll be running the 20x10 up front and 20x11 out back. Pairing that with the Nitto NT555 G2 Street radials, 275/35/20 & 295/35/20s. Is this a good wheel and tire setup? I would love to hear what everyone else runs and if you guys recommend other tires.

I am also going to be doing some suspension work because I want everything looking flush and sitting perfect. I am honestly torn between what suspension route to even take as there are some many options out there, but I am thinking of just getting the FRPP Track Handling kit since I have heard a lot of good things about it, and it’s got everything I will need. Lowers the car around 1” all around and that should hopefully be ok clearance wise with the above wheel and tire setup I have and there be no fitment issues.

I know there are probably a lot better setups out there, but I am just trying to start simple, without losing the drivability and all-around ride comfort and a nice ride height that makes these wheels pop!

My advice is to increase your tire budget and get something better than those Nittos, and if that means getting cheaper wheels then so be it. Velgens cost a lot compared to other options which work just as well.

Expensive show wheels and budget tires get a thumbs down from me. Tires do the work, don’t skimp on the rubber.

^^^ What he said, but without knowing how you use the car is the wild card, if you do mostly just cruising around, And not really performance driving, your tire choice will be different than someone that pushes their car. Just remember IF your area of Floraduh gets daily rain showers wet road tire performance will matter. keep that in mind.
How you use the vehicle will change what tires are best for your use.

I actually don't really have a budget on tires so I am definitely ok with better rubber. And like you stated, I don't want expensive wheels and crap tires. Do you have any recommendations?

I know Michelin and BF makes some great tires and I have the michelins on the PP1 wheels now and they are a pretty solid tires. And, as ICU812 stated below, I live in Florida so it does rain a lot but this isn't my daily so when it DOES rain she stays inside. No excuse not to still go with overall better tires.

Gonna drop the obligatory MPS4S plug. They are the best summer performance tire for general road use, rain or shine, at any temp above 40 degrees. Sometimes I swear they grip better in the wet, but that's probably my butt-dyno needing calibration
Yeah the MP4S is pretty hard to beat for an all round summer tire that handles wet weather extremely well.

There are stickier dry weather tires, but you don’t want to get caught in a rainstorm on some of them and they probably won’t last as long.
