So I should just do the non-fordwebsite update?
I'm not going to recommend it... that's up to you.

If v2.3 truly is to close a security risk on nav equipment that doesn't exist on non-nav equipment there would be no reason to push an update to non-nav VINs.

The v3.0 stuff is all user discretion... Ford hasn't released it on anything except '18s.

Not really. Just have a less complex (more secure/robust) APIM.

More hardware/software means more places to find exploits and memory leaks...

More physical memory (nav only) means any exploit can be used to do more damage (larger malicious programs can run).

I wouldn't say we're screwed... just not as vulnerable.

I actually have the system locked up a couple of times when I am just driving perfectly normally. I think it's because even when you are not on NAV tab, the map is actually running in the background so the system is constantly loading the map.
Never happened to my non-NAV GT.
I think it has something to do with memory management with the NAV versions. Let's hope this fixes it.
So if you don't have NAV, it's probably not a big deal however they should still at least release a non-NAV carplay version.

Just updated mine. Went pretty smoothly.
I don't notice any changes as far as I can tell.

hardware question: for the CP USB hub is there a blue/white option or are we only stuck with white led?

The part numbers on the first page are for blue...

Mustangs came with Blue. White ringed hubs are for Lincolns. I don't think any Lincolns had a single + aux USB setup. That's why the F150 guys got their choice between blue and white.

I also just updated to the Official 2.3 from the owner.ford.com website ... and I notice nothing changed. Perhaps it was just stability changes/fixes in prep for a 3.0 release?

this 2.3 version more than anything sets the foundation to run new sync3 apps. those are the improvements. e.g. sygic car navigation requires min 2.3 to run, which is out for apple, not for android yet

Yeah, I know about the Sygic update. It won’t do me any good, because it’s not CarPlay compatible only AppLink compatible. And they’ll be charging to enable it. There are too many good and free, or low cost, Nav solutions to worry about Sygic.

Tried to downgrade from leaked 3.0 to official 2.3 on my way home last night. Fakes you out for 10 minutes telling you it's updating then gives failure notice due to already being current. Wonder if 16/17 will ever see official 3.0...

I've been trying to connect the trial version of Sygic to my Sync 3 (with 3.0 firmware) but had no success with CarPlay enabled, wondering if it has to be one or the other?

Since I use Apple Music a lot, I'd always choose Carplay over AppLink. Sygic is quite expensive, so it would have to be much better than Apple Maps to make a purchase worthwhile.
