from their facebook post...
#50years
#SnakeBit
#TheLegendReborn....

Shelby reborn - 50 years = 1967... what happened that year... GT500.
SnakeBite = Shelby Cobra logo on the car

So its got to be Shelby GT500... 1967 + 50 = 2017 GT500.
The challenge is we are in year 2017, so the unveiling would be 50 years from the 1967 GT500, but it would be a 2018 model year car, so 51 years...

so? the s550 was a 50 yr car and over 50 years.

i just have my doubts about a gt500 with shelby american stamp.

Well, look at what they did with GT350. Ford has been doing this "matching heritage" stuff lately. The GT350's matched first year production of 137 units (100 GT350's & 37 GT350R's). Also the Ford GT has closely matched the heritage.

So they can still release a GT500 as a late 2017 release, and produce a limited # the first year ( 2,048 GT500's to be exact, to match 1967 production #'s). FYI, there are a lot of car manufacturers who actually do this... Porsche for example, often annouces/releases new models in Dec prior/Jan of the year, instead of the way in advance announcement and production release in Aug of the prior year.

Then in 2018 they'll make as many as they can sell at MSRP... probably about 5000+-.

No it wasn't.

The S550 debuted in 2014 as a 2015 MY.

The first Mustang debuted in 1964 as a 1965. (There is really no such thing as a 1964 1/2 Mustang, they're just very early coded 65's)

ok whatever. they still ran a 2015 yr car past the 50 yr celebration date that happened in 2014.

Also, supports my points of Ford doing exact matching heritage stuff.

There will be 2,048 units of 2017 GT500's made. They still have 11 1/2 months to make that happen, which is very easy considering the volume of cars Ford can produce.

That's only 4 months of "special vehicle" production assuming GT350 speed. (They made 5,500 GT350's and 500 GT350R's per year last year, or approx. 500 per month)

No, they don't have 11.5 months to make a 2017 GT500. All Mustangs after the 2017 MY cutoff will be coded as 2018's. They have roughly 3 and a half months to bang out GT500's for anniversary keeping.

I am sooooooooo excited.....

Yawn. Shelby America has my respect only just barely above that of Hennesey...

About the only thing I care about are their legacy cars like the A/C Cobras and Daytonas. But then I hate them for the bullshit they did to the kit car guys back during the 90s into 2000's.

As for what they do to mustangs these days. It is disgusting. I am kinda ashamed Ford put the Shelby name on their performance offerings. Wish they would just drop it and return to an SVT type badge and the Cobra/Bullit/Mach/Boss name plates.
Cant use the SVT Badge, as it does not exist anymore. Ford Racing, SVT and Team RS was combined together to be "Ford Performance"

The 50 year car continued for the 2015 model year.

The 2016's did not have the anniversary package option or the 50th markings on the dash.

This really isn't complicated.

I'm probably reading far to much into things today, but............I follow a Facebook page called "Mustang - The First 50 Years". They haven't posted in a month and today they've just posted a bunch of photos of the original GT500KR :headbonk:

Of course, it's also Carroll's birthday, today.

I've talked at length with a buddy of mine at Shelby and he told me they spent A LOT of time with CAD and are basically redesigning the entire car from an appearance stand point. Should look completely different than the standard road going car S550. That's really all he would tell me.
Why would they do a lot of CAD changes unless they are doing body mods?

Maybe they bought-out Zero to 60 Designs and got approval from Ford to make changes acceptable to them and fit it on a GT350 body instead of the regular GT, to lower the nose opening.

All Ford has to do is change VIN number to keep it a 17 right into Sep. They did the exact same thing with the 2015 GT350.
