What issues have you seen with open filters and hydrolocking? Do you plan on driving your car under water?

Not trying to be fresh or start an argument, I'm geniously curious as to the need for something like this on a Mustang driven on the street

I've read threads on people mentioning water on their open filters on the 15-17 GT's. If you want to see those a quick search should pull them up. I just want to be safe and have the peace of mind, it's worth the 20 or 30 bucks.

My car is parked outside everyday. It rains here a crap ton. It's insurance.

I'm not sure you can have hydrolock unless the filter/inlet is fully submerged. This can be an issue for an intake that sits very low in the bumper, but almost every CAI has the filter about as high as possible.

I'd look at diverting flow from the hood vents before putting a pre-filter on.

Agreed.

The pre-filter should be a last resort. They restrict airflow, somewhat, to repel water.

Unless you are driving in the ocean or plan on hanging 10 with your Mustang, you will be okay. The Mustang's filter sits at a good location. It sits high up and in a pressure zone.

If you are really paranoid, get an air intake canister. Link to canister.
