Hey all, so I’m currently going back and forth on a rear wheel and tire setup. To give some background, car is a ‘19 GT MT82 with black package so it wears 255/40/19 Pirelli all seasons from the factory.

Made it out to the track on two separate outings since picking the car up last August. Both occasions I was met with violent wheel hop on the 1-2 shift so bad I had to let out every time.

Best 60’ to date is a 2.2 and that resulted in a best 1/4 et of 13.0@113. Car has K & N drop in filter, x pipe and MBRP axle back exhaust. Dynoed 434 rwhp with just x pipe back in November.

The two options I’ve been considering are:

1. Buying a 19” wheel with either 10,10.5 or 11 width to accept “up to” 335 section width rear tires.

2. Buying a drag setup for the rear which most likely would consist of race stars with some type of bias ply tire. I’m more hesitant going this route as I’ve never owned a bias ply tire and all the “sway” talk on the big end is a bit unsettling.

All things considered, which way would you guys go and why? I’m not planning on buying upgraded axles till winter ;) car really only sees the track 5 or 6 times a season. I should add that eventually I plan to run a squared 305/35/19 setup but that will be next year.

Thanks everyone!

Same boat as you, ‘17 GT MT82, 3.31s.

I installed BMR CB005 kit and with Hoosier DR2 245/45/17 drag radials no wheel hop, but I am worried about snapping my half shafts.

I have GT 350 shafts to install and recently found and bought some M&H 26”x8.5”17” bias-plys to try as well.

I’d consider upgrading your half shafts if you stay on radials or just go to bias-ply, but be mindful of your gearing and tire diameter

28” tires with low numerical gearing will not net you good ET or MPH
