Need Help!!

I have a mustang ecoboost with a roush intake and FRPP catback. the other day after a short burn out the car started making some weird noise, opened the hood and made a friend press the gas pedal and i heard it coming from the roush air filter. It sounded like it wasn't tightened down well. Went home removed the intake and reinstalled it but couldn't tighten the bolts to torque specs. Sound went away.

Fast forward 3 days the car starts to make the sound again after boost. come home to tighten the bolts turn on the car and the sound is not there. Tightened down the bolts according to Torque specs and it has been 4 days.


Looked online and finally found a description of the sounds I'm hearing. TURBO FLUTTERING

Could it be something wrong with the turbo? or maybe because the intake wasn't bolted down tightly? I just got the Cobb AP and I'm scared to flash the ECU worried there could be something wrong with the turbo.

Other than noise, any performance drop? Boost problems? All your hoses clamped down correctly?

We won't be able to help you to much over the forums. You'll have to locate the leak yourself. Often times, there can be a split in the intake or charge pipe that only opens at boost. Ensure all clamps are tight, diligently inspect all components for the smallest of defects.

Consider buying a cigar and performing a smoke test.

No when the noise happened I didn't let the car get into boost till I got home and removed and reinstalled the intake. The car seems to drive the same way it's always been. What do you think it could be? I'm dying to tune it but now I'm worried it could be a pre existing issue. I have the Cobb AP right next to me and I just keep thinking to my self "fuck it and just tune it"

Sounds like you're either describing a boost leak or compressor surge. I doubt it's the second one though unless something is wrong with the BOV. I forgot to plug the power back into mine before and got the flutter until I fixed it

Well it only happened twice and I didn't notice any performance issue with the car. The boost reading is around 21psi under full throttle

Take it in for a smoke test on both sides, not just the charge pipes. Ford is replacing my turbo now because the turbo housing had a leak. Look at the front side of your turbo and see if you can see any soot or black carbon looking stuff. If you do, that's prob your problem.

It just happened the turbo fluttering sound and I lost power when I was pressing all the way down on the gas pedal. I pulled over turned off the car and turned it back on and the car was back to normal.

How do you do a smoke test? And why do you think after I turned off the car and turned it back on the sound went away and the power was back?

double check your intercooler hose connections, make sure clamps are tight and no hoses are backing off .
Look over real good each connection from turbo outlet all the way to TB .

Note a intake will make things louder in all ways .

I just checked the clamps the intake and the the clamps around the turbo they seem pretty tight. But the only one that disturbs me is the the inter cooler tube to the turbo. The side of the hose where it connects to the intercooler is not fitted completely on to the intercooler. I'll post a pic up
