Did you expect much else? With the extremely sharp pricing they were always going to sell. Over time I see the EB outselling the GT model. Keep in mind that the concept of the Mustang was to put a performance car in everyone's garage, it's just that in Australia it has always been "exotic"

If you look at the US they are an extremely common car. When I was in California in June last year I saw plenty of the 6G Mustang and it was only out for a year. I saw heaps more of the older model too

Eventually, yeah I would expect so, but in this case its a blessing that they limit the production of right hand drives!

6000 still isnt really a massive number when you spread it across Australia, so thats a good few years before they would be considered common as muck.

And already there is talk of a local mustang being written off.... Thats a wait until 2018 to replace it... So down to 5999 at this stage, at the end of 2017.

Also keep in mind there is a facelift model in 2018 and the next generation has been brought forward to 2020... So the Mustang as we are getting it will likely be limited to under 10,000 nationally

Then you get a few combinations that will be limited further, eg discontinued colours etc that make the cars that bit more unique

To put "common as muck" into perspective, compare to the Mazda 3 which IS as common as muck: "Leading the way was Mazda3 – one of the nation’s most popular cars – with 3,803 December and 43,313 2014 sales."

In one month they sold as many as 2 years worth of Mustang sales. That means there's going to be 24 times as many Mazda 3s _of the same generation_ as Mustangs. When you also consider that the Mazda 3 has been selling since 2003, as [MENTION=14954]thewolf[/MENTION] said, they're still going to be fairly limited.

The last "really popular" car like the Mustang was the GT86 and that sold about 6000 units in its first year, so Mustangs are likely to be about half as common as GT86s.


So for every one Mustang you see on the road, you'll see 2 GT86s and 24 Mazda 3s.
Add in all the others models that we get in our crazily diverse Australian market, and trust me, Mustangs will seem rare

We all know this doesn't appear to be the case :lol:

Then again, I like the fact that whoever did the market survey was having a bad Friday, underestimated the number of cars, placed an order for insufficient amount of RHD headers (maybe forgot to multiply by two for both cylinder banks? haha), and all this resulted in not enough RHD allocation.

It will make the Series 1 RHD S550's pretty rare beasts, with all their quirks of course!

To put things into perspective, the US sells almost twice the number us Aussies have ordered in total per month... according to Wikipedia, Ford sold sold 122,349 Mustangs in the US in 2015 (10,195/month)

While we are big hitters for our population size, our population is tiny compared to other markets. I'm sure they appreciate our market, but they're not going to put off their own local market which has more competition to service it

How on Earth Flat Rock isn't able to produce a couple of thousand extra cars to satisfy demand in Australia immediately instead of making people wait for frikkin' 2 years is beyond me.

at this rate i need to order my replacement mustang (I have taken delivery of the first one yet) next year to get it in 2019/2020.
