Question for anyone that is familiar with the aftermarket laws for NC:

I want to put some LEDs in the grille of my car. I know I can't use red or blue, but I can't find any info on whether or not I could have the lights on while driving or can only turn them on if I'm parked or in a parking lot. Not looking to blind people with extra lights..just wanna have some fun with accent lighting :).

If anyone knows, or can point me in a direction for more info Id really appreciate it!!!

I think it varies by municipality, but the rule of thumb is: not while driving, only for show.

For some reason truck lighting seems to get away with this. Ultimately it comes down to the officer. As all things do.

That makes sense. Thanks for replying :)

Let me know if you find anything else. I was debating this on my green 13. I want lighting behind the grille. Waiting for a good billet grille but can start sourcing lighting now.

We make a reasonably priced grill lighting kit, that's easy to install and quite bright. I've done installations on a dozen or so vehicles, and it's just a matter of locating the LED strips well. Let me know if you guys have any questions!

Do you have any pics of your kit on a 15 yet? I want a yellow glow, I don't want to be able to look at it and see the lights.

Instead of this forum I would be going onto NCDOT.gov for motor vehicle operations or calling your local DMV for guidance. When in doubt, never trust the internet ;)

you are permitted to have exterior lights in these colors: red, yellow, amber, and white. location does not matter.
