Hey, Brent302. Any idea how long it would take for the system to index a 64GB stick? I've bought one of those tiny ones to use (if I ever get scheduled and actually get one!) and I'd like to carry it with me when I take delivery. Maybe it can be indexing while I'm hammering out the paperwork. Thanks.
My wife has a 32GB and it's pretty quick
Brent,

Great idea, I bought one and I am using it.
Awesome glad I could help.
I use my iPod Classic to have about 35,000 songs at the ready at all times, but they don't make those any more.

I'm sure you could just get a 1 TB portable hard drive, stick it in the center console attached by USB.
Indexing a 1TB....then skipping from bumps eeee lol

Indexing my 160 GB iPod Classic takes about ten minutes, but you only have to do it once, unless you're changing the music on it (which I don't; I don't think I've changed a single song on it in five years). And that has a regular spinning hard drive in it, but it's never once skipped on me.

I hear you. I'm just trying to think of easy ways to fit a 150 or 200 GB music collection in the car... so you never have to ever say "oh, I wish I could hear ___ song" and not be able to immediately pull it up.

I want someone to try that mini usb hub with 2 - 64gb usb drives in it. 128gb should be enough for most anyone and it's low power and smaller than a drive of any sort.

Is there a limitation on the number of drives it can work with at once?

Ie, if you have your phone and the usb drive in, do you see songs from both?

Well after discovering that MFT No longer comes with a HDD I was a bit bummed but happy. Honestly loading music to a thumb drive and then installing it onto the HDD is irritating and slow. By removing the HDD just cuts out the middle man.

I was then thinking for myself MicroSD is a no go since that is where my NAV SD Card will be. Which then had me thinking about USB Sticks which then made me think of a huge ugly stick protruding from the dash but then Amazon handed me a solution...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FJRS6QY

This crazy near flush mount 64GB flash drive! From some research it has worked perfectly with the current MFT and can hold around 15,000 songs! Yes there are large capacities out there but None this compact! I ordered it and will be testing it with my wife's 2012 Edge. Not to mention it's 60% off right now on Amazon.

For those curious this is bigger than I believe any car HDDs that come OEM. Grab one now at the discounted price just remember to format it as FAT32. I will update with my results it will arrive on Tuesday.
Just ordered. This will hold me over until a 128GB version comes out.

I think it's time to retire the old iPod Classic. It did its duty in the 2011.
