And it's happened to me over and over again that I'll hit the touchscreen with my fingernail and wince as I feel it scratch against the surface. Admittedly, I haven't seen any scratches on the screen yet, but I keep thinking it's just a matter of time.
Count on it...why I ordered a screen protector, cheap insurance-->

Not an exaggeration; actually it was just me misunderstanding a word -- I meant to say "quick" but said "cuticle" instead.

The touch screen is in front of you and below you as you're driving, so when you go to hit the touch screen, you're pointing downward -- and you have any kind of length to your fingernails at all, the nail will hit the screen before your finger does. Even if your fingernails are only, say, this long, the nail will hit first:

Ya, mine are short short, no way they will touch the screen. But like I said (and as you note) no scratches on my wife's Edge screen after 1.5 years use. I wouldn't be worried about scratching due to finger nail, but to each their own.

I find with screen savers, as careful as I am applying I end up:
a) not getting the screen clean enough pre-application - so end up with lint and stuff stuck underneath
b) even if I manage a completely clean screen, I have at least one bubble that does not go away.

So while I may not have any permanent 'damage' to the screen, it drives me nuts looking at it.

I paid closer attention to this today. You aren't really pointing downward when you touch the screen - more like straight. I don't see how your finger nails would hit before your finger - unless you have some seriously long nails or are purposely using your nails.

Plus, I was able to angle my finger upwards so there is no way a nail would touch.

But, I guess if it is happening to some of you, it is happening.

I ordered DaVue use coupon code BLG10 for 10% off.
Thanks for passing this along. Ordered one and installed it yesterday. Great quality and fits the screen perfectly. Can't even tell it is on there and it is super clear. The anti reflection is nice. Getting all the dust off the screen was a pain and the screen cleaner cloth that Ford included kept leaving blue fuzzies everywhere.

Thanks! I just ordered one as well!

You happy with yours?
It's one of those things that should be included from Ford. They ship the cars with a screen protector for a reason, to be removed by the owner to prove it has NO scratches, to protect just in case someone or something accidently hits/brushes something against the screen then it's ruined.

Why gamble saving $20.00-->:doh::shrug::doh:

Every single touch device you can buy ships with a temporary screen protector, I've yet to see anyone include a permanent one...

On a portable touch device, I see the value.

For a permanent mounted touch screen (that is not in a kiosk or other high traffic type environment) I'd rather not have one due to the fact that 1) the screen never quite feels or looks as good with one, 2) I suck at applying them so they are bubble/lint free, and 3) there is very low risk of actually getting a scratch on my screen.

But as I often say, each to their own. :)

^^This would make it worth the price. My screen in my Taurus seems invisible half the time with all the reflection, especially on a sunny day. I have noticed that my screen is more angled than what appears in the Mustang so maybe that helps. I would get one just to cut down on the glare on the screen.

DayVue Screen Protector...

I was looking at a YouTube Chemical Guys Video about detailing...he showed finger nail scratches inside the door handle area and how to buff them out. I assume that the touch screen plastic is softer than the exterior paint/clear coat. So I ordered a DayVue Screen Protector sheet (8").
When the weather gets warmer I am going to have the top down as much as possible. When the sun is shining low through the windows...the touch screen does get washed out quite a bit. I am hoping that the anti-sun-glare screening of the DayVue will help increase the contrast when the top is down.
