Lane splitting is legal here and car/truck drivers are encouraged to "make room" for motorcycles.

Yup. I got no problem with it--the bike will get the worst of it--but it unnerves me when they come through unexpectedly, usually going WAY too fast (I think the limit for lane-splitting is 35MPH; I've seen them doing 3 times that).

Agreed - and they get clobbered from time to time which really fucks up rush hour. "Motorcycle down on the 15 N - expect huge delays".

They're usually fatal as well
