All the reviews suggest that the mustang is comparable to their Euro equivalents, however, interior quality finish isn't quite there.

Interestingly in the UK you can get a TT Quattro or M235i for roughly the same price as a V8 Mustang. So makes it a little harder to justify a mustang.

Base pricing (excluding on the road costs) here in Oz are:
Mustang EB $45K
VW Scirocco $46K
BMW 220i coupe $51K
Mustang GT $55K
Merc C180 $60K
BMW 228i $64K
Audi A5 $68K
BMW 420i $70K
Merc C250 $71K
Audi TT $72K
Audi A5 Quattro $75K
Audi TT Quattro $77K
BMW M235i $80K
BMW 428i $80K
Merc E200 $81K
Tesla S $95K (8yr warranty, no petrol costs)
Merc E250 $98K
Merc C350 $99K
Jag F type $120K
Audi S5 $125K
Merc E400 $131K
Audi RS5 $158K
Merc C63 $160K
BMW M3 $166K

Bit of a no brainer really...

True, you can get both those cars in the UK for a similar price to the Mustang GT but they are tiny and don't have V8s

You wouldn't simply cross shop Mustang with the coupes. Other cars that would fit the bill would be: Golf R, WRX STI, VF SS V, 300C. Damn, even the 370Z and the Evo X would be cross shopped against Mustang.
Regardless, even with all its fails Mustang seems BANG FOR BUCK.

It depends on your individual desires. If you're after an Aston Martin / 911 / Maserati / M4 / S5 / C63 / Jag F Type style 2 door coupe but don't want to fork out a couple of hundred $Ks you wouldn't be looking at any of your suggestions. The mustang is very appealing.

In Europe the decision is more difficult and harder to justify.

The latest Top Gear Euro review describes this well...
A bargain, then?

Yes, lots of on-paper spec and performance. Look at it in terms of European rear-drive coupes: it's the size of a BMW 6-Series V8, at the price of a 2-Series four-cylinder.

In fact I should probably delete the VW Sciroco and BMW 2 series from my list above but will leave them there for context.

I've also added the Tesla S because it's an amazing looking car in a league of its own. Depending on how many kms you drive, you could save in petrol costs and bring the overall cost down to similar to the GT.

Even more compelling are the convertibles. There really is nothing that comes close. An A3 or 2 series is a poor mans Audi/BMW and doesn't have the presence of an A5, 4 series etc

Audi A3 $48K
Peuogot 308CC $53K
Mustang EB $54K
Audi A3 Quattro $55K
BMW 220i $55K
Mustang GT $64K
BMW 228i $69K
Audi S3 Quattro $70K
Lotus Elise $75K
Lexus IS250C $76K
Infiniti Q70 $77K
Audi A5 $80K
BMW M235 $86K
BMW 420i $87K
Merc E200 $90K
Audi A5 Quattro $90K
BMW 428i $98K
Merc E250 $107K
BMW 435i $126K
Audi S5 $130K
Jag F type $138K
Merc E400 $145K
Audi RS5 $178K
BMW M4 $178K

It jumps from a $54K EB to the $64K GT and then $80K for the 1.8L A5 and then the 420i for $87K.
Even more of a no brainer!

It's also worth noting that in the UK, the EB vert is the same price as a 420i vert.
In the UK the 428i vert is slightly cheaper than the GT.

So Ford Australia really did give us a bargain!

Or looking at it from a different view BMW Australia is really ripping Australians off.

Agree - especially when you factor in the fact that we (the first batch of customers) will be paying full list price, wheras you'll be getting at least 10% of say, a BMW 4 series.

From my point of view, the less they sell, the more 'exclsive' our cars will be.

Monty, in the UK, which 4 series coupe (at 10% off list price) can you get for the same price as the EB and the GT? And same question for the vert?

They start around £26K (list price is around £30K). EB starts at £29K. Fairly subjective as to which model you would use for a direct comparison. BMW doesn't come close on power, wheras the overall quality is far superior (lets be honest). Depends on your priorities.

Of course, but which 4 series coupe can you get for the same price as:
1) GT
2) EB

And which 4 series vert can you get for the same price as:
1) GT vert
2) EB vert
??

So in the UK you can get a 420i for similar list price to the EB and a 428i for similar list price as the GT, for both the coupe and vert.
If you were able to negotiate a 10% discount on the BMW you could then get a 428i for the same price as an EB.

When you consider these 4 series are approximately 1.5 times the list price of the mustang in Oz it reinforces how well priced the mustangs really are.

Also, I think the price of the Mustang is lower in Oz compared to the UK, starting at $45K + on the road costs. What are the 'on the road costs' roughly by the way?

On road costs add the best part of $5K.
