So i actually tried this before and failed using a weaker 3m tape the strongest double sided molding tape is needed
I wonder if carpet tape would work better? Should be thicker and work better with a felt-like surface, right?

Could see that working not sure how it would work on the metal pinch weld

I understand the sentiment.
It feels an awful lot like letting the manufacturer get away with no consequences though.
I've been fortunate to not have this issue. I recall back in the 80's, 90's, etc. the cars that had sagging headliners (the entire thing from front to back, not just the edges) were GM vehicles and some asian imports. I never had this occur on any Fords I owned in the past. It seemed the problem was that the GMs used some kind of foam backing to the headliner and after time and heat, etc. the foam would deteriorate causing the fabric to hang down onto your head. I really hated driving those cars. I liked the ones that seemed to have a more solid headliner that almost seemed like fiberboard or cardboard type backing that stayed put no matter how old the car was. My almost 14 year old Honda's headliner is still perfect.

I visualize a strip parallel and inset from the edge of the headliner.
Meant like the actual connection not sure how well it sticks to metal bcuz its designed to stick on wood
