I couldnt justify swinging $40K+ for a Premium or even mid $30K+ for a used one (at this point in my life) but a smoking deal on a base GT with PP as the ONLY option came up and I couldnt resist. Ive DD'd mustangs all my life and Im happy to be back in one every day. I traded a loaded Focus ST2 (all the options for an ST2) and will miss the Nav and the Recaros but the wife is happier with the Mustang seats and I can use my phone for the Nav. I wish it had the toggles that the Premium has but the buttons work and do mostly the same things so who cares...it has the 3 most important things. 5.0, 6 speed and PP. If you cant justify the amount for the Premium, dont count out the Base, go try one out and see what you think. Then, like said before, mod it over time and make it what you want!

Wow, I can't believe the salesman spent all that time with someone and allowed that many miles to be put on a car who wasn't ready to buy. Maybe just sit in the car and listen to the radio, but that's about it.
Honestly I was surprised too. All of my dealer experiences up to that point was if I test drove and declined to buy, they brought out the "bruiser" to try to talk me into buying that day. Not the case. Not sure if it was because I went at 10am on a Sunday. The salesman was 20 y/o; maybe he was intimidated by all my grey hair  (actually, he was a great young man. Knew lots about the car. )

The younger guys are usually a lot more relaxed than the hardcore sellers.

Are you sure?

I've been driving 5.0's since the early 80's (more recently a 12 GT and a 13 GT), it sounds like the actual exhaust is what I'm hearing.
Definitely. I could barely hear the exhaust even with the windows down until I did a resonator delete X pipe. Perhaps the 16's are a tad louder. It sounds very good inside, no doubt, but it is so, so much better with a little more.

A FRPP touring axle back would be perfect for anyone that only wants louder when they get on it, but otherwise is very similar to stock.

As I stated in a previous comment, the first S550 GT I looked at had an aftermarket exhaust and I walked away from it.

I'm very happy with how the bone stock exhaust I have now sounds, I won't be changing it. But if an aftermarket exhaust makes you happy, that's ok too.

I was surprised he let us go alone. I didn't push it too hard, and honestly, was quite easy with it. I made it clear that it was a test drive, to see if it was something that was even of interest. Honestly, I haven't been a fan of the brand and the three Fords I've been around, have been complete shit.

I just don't think I could go with the absolute base GT. I'm going to have to sit down, when the new job comes up, look at financials and see what the fiancee thinks. She even supported the premium model. Definitely curious to see how the PP drives over the base. In comparison to my 3 series, it felt as flat, if not more so around corners. I literally hit a corner and was like, "This is a Mustang!?"

That is the same reaction I had on my very first test drive of base GT S550. Do check out a PP equipped car. I think you'll enjoy it

Seconded. It's been 2 days after my test drive and I'm still psyched about it. I have a sliver of a taste of how you owners feel every day. Next year cannot come soon enough.

Determine whether you're going to mod the car or keep it stock. I bought a Base at a great price because I was always planning on doing extensive mods to improve everything over stock, starting with the PP suspension and wheels. If I was going to keep my Mustang mostly stock however I would probably buy a Premium PP to get all the options and then leave it at that. For me, a Base was the ideal car to start with.
