Panigale?
Correct — this one was my 2015 Pani R. Tune, MR12, full Akra, filter, super-stock head, thin HG, degreed cams, short velocity stacks, 520 conversion… basically all the good stuff on a stock bottom end. An amazing machine, but an absolute handful to ride at 9/10. I could only squeeze out about 6 laps flat-out before I was mentally cooked, dehydrated, and questioning why do build and crave such lunacy — but man did I feel like a hero while doing it. She used to eat everything alive out of the corners and down the straights. They’re a difficult bike to ride fast, but when you ride it the way it needs to be ridden — not the way you want to ride it — that’s when you really mesh with it.
I still have a few bikes in the garage now, but a properly sorted Pani Twin is a thing of beauty if you enjoy a lightweight, slightly unhinged animal living underneath you.
Honestly, it had that magical ability to make you think you’re on another level compared to everyone else… right up until your mentally fatigued and out of breath and you realize you’re just a regular baboon hanging on for dear life. Passing guys as they settle into their line while I’m wrestling a bike that’s still on one wheel and leaned over will absolutely inflate your ego in all the wrong ways.
I’ll definitely have to build another one once the 350R is done. Apparently, I only take on projects that terrify me and drain my bank account at the same time.
