New to the forums, but just picked up my beauty over the weekend and looking to order a dash cam (as an extra security feature since I do not have a garage).

Anyone have a favorite? Seems like every one (even the higher-priced ones), have their problems.

Thanks for the help

I actually bought the Geek Pro 2 camera from Amazon for about less that $80.00, with all the attachments as well. I didn't go with a high priced camera like Gopro, because I saw videos, and they were pretty close to the video quality. Not going to spend an upwards of $300 to $400, I rather spend that kind of cash on car mods. Mine works very well with no issues at all.

I have the blackvue 650 front and rear camera setup and love it. My first unit had some connectivity issues with my phone and within a week the speaker had a short circuit. They replaced the unit no problem and everything has run smoothly since. I am very impressed with the picture/audio quality and paired with a power magic pro for recording while parked I have complete peace of mind.

Does the blackvue need to be hard wired in or can you plug it in to the power outlet in the cabin?

It comes with a 12v lighter/accessory plug.

Great camera setup, even better if you use some of the custom firmware out of Russia. ;)

It does not have to be hard wired but the hard wire allows you to run a radar detector out of your outlet still and record longer after power off. As someone mentioned above it is a $350 setup but within the week I bought it I caught 3 near misses on camera. I also was able to use the speed stamp portion to get out of an issue with work security who claimed I was "excessively speeding" through the parking lot.

Be wary of having the speed recorded as it could come back to bite you in the event of an accident unless you are always driving at or below the limit.

How much would it cost to get it hardwired in by a shop?

+1 for the Blackvue 650 front and rear camera setup. It's worth the $350+ because of it's wifi, gps, parking mode, and hard wired is definitely the way to go if you want it to work when it's parked. The video quality is extremely good for a dash cam. Well worth the money if you ever get hit and need to prove you are not at fault. Also, piece of mind if needing to leave it at the Stealership for any issues, you can see on a map where your car was driven and at what speeds. Anyone takes it on a joyride and beats on it you have plenty of proof.

Number one reason why I haven't bought a dash cam... looking from various reviews, they all suck for one reason or another or are seemingly missing certain features the others have.

I just want a camera that's durable and not prone to overheating in the summer, good quality sensor with polarized lens, gps and speed display on the video (should be able to toggle this, no need to necessarily incriminate your self. :headbonk: ), 1080p 60fps, etc.

Waiting for a camera like that and for it to be reasonably priced. Perhaps it already exists, but I haven't seen it yet.

I have the blackvue 650 as well, I had to get it replaced once because some connectivity issues. However, I've had no problems since. I wanted a small, sleek camera, that goes typically unnoticed and that's exactly what the Blackvue gives you.

Overall, it was worth the money to me. Never realy had to go back and look at video feed, but it'll be there in case I need it
