MMD rear spoiler problem/question

Hey guys, long time forum member of other sites, just signed up here.

I recently purchased an MMD spoiler and went thru the install process, measuring for 40 minutes using the templates making sure it was perfect. Long story short, the way I lined up the body lines must have not been what MMD intended Either way it the holes were off by the slightest which threw the spoiler off and I could not attach the spoiler using the supplied hardware.

I in turn used the 3M backing to install which seems to have a very strong grip. My question is, will it hold? and if not what would guys recommend as to a way to add a more permanent solution seeing as the spoiler is already mounted.

I'm thinking it needs to be bolted in. How far off are the holes?

I'm assuming you have the v-series spoiler, which in itself is rather tall & wide. MMD uses the same grey 3m automotive tape which in their rear diffuser kit is shown to be rather flimsy. However, I notice when installing mine that the tape was pretty strong when I was centering everything. Could also be my liberal use of the adhesive promoter. Long term though, I would not trust just the adhesive to hold that spoiler in place.

How off centered are the holes you drilled out? Considering they aren't lining up, and if they aren't too far off, maybe you can just slot the holes and visually line up the spoiler. Can't see the holes anyway after all is said and done.

Another question would need to be asked. Do you have a fastback or convertible (assuming its a fastback the way you are talking)?

If you have a convertible, the spoiler may not flow with the body lines perfectly since the decklid on the convertible is different than a fastback. Also if have a convertible with a spoiler, the holes will not line up. You will need to drill new holes as the MMD spoilers would re-use the factory holes from the fastbacks.

Finally it would be best to bolt it down as it was intended to. If you don't bolt it down and something happens like it flies off, then you are out of some money.

If you hadn't attached it, you could have just drilled the holes out a little larger so they would line up, and use a flat washer if necessary. Now that you've attached it, your options are nil. To try and bolt it down, you would have to remove the spoiler which means cutting through the 3M tape. You would have to remove and replace the tape on the bottom of the spoiler.

I know it's too late now, but it would have benefitted you to test fit with the bolts before pulling the backing on the 3M tape. I did this and found I had 1 hole that didn't quite line up. I was able to make that one hole a little larger and once I had a good fit, I then pulled the backing on the tape and secured it in place.
