I always thought the same thing that if it goes off your already caught. Seems its easier to just not speed so much then buy a bunch of BS and try wiring it up in your car? How much time are you actually saving? I see guys blow past on the interstate only for me to get behind them a few miles up the rode when there stuck behind a semi or other slower traffic.
I find the phone apps , that show where speed traps are, is a better option than a detector , that you need to have the latest radar, laser. whatever
A local town, dug out their older speed guns. as most of the newer detectors don't bother with that outdated gear.
That must suck, you have the latest and greatest unit, and it never goes off.
I never bought a radar detector, as I knew if I had one, I would rely on it too much, and speed more than I normally would.
If someone wants to speed, that is their choice. I can't say I never do. because I do. But like Custard, I send out a scout, and let the guy/gal that goes way over the limit, scout out the area, as I do the 10-15 over(highway). Has worked. The scout gets the gum ball machine. and I roll past.

The detectors do have the old X and K band settings. You just have to make sure they are turned on.

For constant power to the dashcam, I ran from the passenger side fuse box. Actually, I ran all three wires (constant, switched, and ground) from the passenger footwell side since I needed to run the constant anyway.
