One of those hooks snapped off when I pulled mine off. And I broke the other off because I thought it was getting in the way of snapping back on. In the end, it was the vinyl edging I applied that was keeping it from snapping on, and the hook was useless.

Can you give another description on how to remove these again?

Anything would be helpful before I tear something up.

Thanks

Been a while but I mostly just used the info @AgentAlex posted.

But I wonder if Ford made any two covers alike. If you look at the picture he posted and the picture of my driver side, both 2016, both with BLIS, you'll see the tab count and placement are not the same.

And like I posted, I had a hard time getting the passenger side off and I assume its due to those hooks. I don't know how to avoid them almost being ripped off. Maybe I just got lucky. As I said, I had no idea they were there or why they are just on the passenger side.

Thanks for the post @HoosierDaddy.

Hmmm....they look the same to me. No other advice on the passenger side?

Oh, you're right. It was just a different camera angle. I see the 3rd tab in a line on mine now.

I never removed either again so don't have ideas to make passenger easier. But I guess pulling the cover sideways as soon as it comes free might help. But that would seem to mean toward the car so could scrape something.

So I pulled the driver's side mirror cap off last night and guess what........it has the two hook tabs.

I wonder if they both don't have them and they just break off typically.

After a more close look at my and other pictures in this thread, there seem to be paint shadows where the missing hooks would be on the driver side and what could be a base for the hooks. Maybe they get broken off at the factory! Because there definitely were no broken hooks on the ground or in the mirror guts when I removed the driver mirror cap. And I had commented on how easy the driver side came off while the passenger side was difficult as would be the case if the hooks were not on the driver mirror caps.

Since I never had an issue before I removed the mirror caps for painting, and no issues since, it seems the hooks aren't needed.

Strange.

Just a guess on my part, but perhaps the hooks are only used during production to hold the part while it it painted?

I've been researching this and like what this guy is doing better than just pulling the cap out - risking tabs breaking.

This is way too much work. Just pull it off.
