I don't believe in the speculation anymore. Ford has said little to nothing about the car so who cares. The Shelby GT350 is just like Bigfoot, Area 51 Aliens, The Lochness Monster, The Chupa Cabra, Unicorns, Fairies etc... until it shows up on the Ford website with the official order guide. All this speculation is just :frusty:
For being in the military, you should already know that nothing is confirmed until it really happens!:lol::lol:

The part that's funny is the "No one will even know its a GT350 because the GT guys are getting all the stuff from it. LMFAO sound like a kid face down on the living room floor screaming in his Capt America Underoos

So can I get one if I ask my Dad to use his (retired) Military credentials backed by my money?

When I was in the military you had to be stationed overseas to use Military Auto Sales. And No you couldn't use your Dads service.

I'm buying mine through MAS now; the only way you are eligible is if you're military or DOD civilian with overseas orders of 30 days or more. They need a copy of the orders or a letter from your commander as verification.

So a military Officer retired after 30+ years of service is not eligible?

Sounds so discriminative? Current standing shouldn't disqualify anyone with a Military history serving their country? Right?

Wrong. No one really cares about you after you retire. Its all about "Active duty"
and in the case of car sales, like I said its only for those overseas. I bought my 08 GT/CS from them while stationed in Japan.

Was looking at a charger hellcat because I have a 1 year old and they quoted me 3000 down to have a lottery for it. I didn't feel like tying down 3 grand for a vehicle I may never get. So I got the mustang instead.

No one is eligible unless they're currently in or a civilian and they're overseas meeting the qualifications like I said. People stateside aren't eligible for this program either, it's only for people overseas for a decently long term.

It's not discrimination, it's a benefit to being away from home (and possibly your family) long-term. And trust me when I say that not everyone serving here with me goes and uses them.

The prices aren't so low that they beat every dealer out there, but they are generally competitive, and you get the benefit of not having to pay certain fees. You'll still have to pay sales tax on the car depending on where you get it delivered if you take stateside delivery. I will have to pay being in Illinois.

Some benefits you get only while you're in, and some you only get when you're retired. It's all part of the deal. I'm an officer with 14 years in, but if I get out right now, I lose all my benefits. Just because you served and retired doesn't mean you should get everything handed to you on a silver platter. The pension and healthcare is a pretty good deal counter to getting a possible slight discount on a car.

WOW that sucks... My dad would feel his value as having served and having been overseas would put him in a different light in the eyes of his peers and those currently serving.

I see him as a hero on a par with any Military personnel serving then or now.

Oh well...just more craziness about the world we live in. Still very demeaning when you think about it.

Also...Overseas? So they have a car waiting for them when they get back home? Or are these going to be shipped to where they serve? Not really getting the whole concept...still if there are requisites based on serving status...its is actually discriminative by definition. If there was no requisites on current active duty status then it would be indiscriminate.

Just saying.

There are plenty of people who've served before and all have done their part to help. I am not saying I don't value and respect his service. But there is a difference between currently serving and being retired. Two totally different situations...

If you're going to claim it's discrimination, then why not offer it to anyone who's served before, not just those who are retired and/or have done overseas service? And what about those people who have very short stints in the military and get out due to medical issues? Your argument is a very slippery slope.

Also, I don't see how or why you should get your dad to buy you a car due to his status, to me that is an abuse of the program. The vendor is the one running everything, and they have the ability to put limitations or qualifications on it just like Ford does with their incentives. If you went to a dealer and tried to get the Military Bonus Cash by saying your dad is retired, do you think they'd really go for it?

That's just my two cents though...

To answer your other questions, if you're overseas for a permanent place of duty, such as Germany or Japan, then you can get the car shipped to you. If you're like me, out in the desert and not allowed to have a vehicle, then it will be built and delivered for you to pick up at a dealer that participates in the program at a date of your choosing.

If you want to know about the program, then you can read it all for yourself: http://www.militaryautosource.com

Not really interested in it.. as its clearly discriminative. Anyone who served and is serving should have an equal opportunity. Regardless of how long their stint in the service was, especially if there were circumstances that caused them to have to end their role early due to injury or health issues as a result of their time serving.

Regardless of who you are and what branch you're in and where you're stationed.... The whole concept is already on a slippery slope. It purely qualifies based on active duty not time served. For example a retired officer with multiple commendations should be more worthy of the opportunity than a current officer pushing pencils overseas and getting medals for perfect attendance. Not trying to be rude... but just offering perspective that is more true than false.

And..if my dad wants me to get this cool car with his discount...he'd come with me to the dealership and brag about his career... even put the car in his name then sign it over to me afterwards. It's his right to do so. I would not twist him arm to do it.

That's just my two cents though...

You are entitled to your opinion, but I do think you're talking out of your ass a bit, being you don't have the experience or knowledge of serving yourself; I think you'd possibly have a different perspective if you knew firsthand what it's like.

We'll just say we agree to disagree and leave it at that...no reason to get into it any further.

He's not the first, and probably won't be the last! But differences make the world go round.
