I would be careful using anything other than the Mercon LV fluid. With how finicky these transmissions are and the manual specifically stating Mercon LV fluid only I would try your best to get the Ford stuff :like:

Edit: Sorry just saw you said 6r80! Those are much less finicky and should be fine with similar fluid :)

I’m sure Ford branded ATF/LV/ULV is made by one of the big manufacturers and wouldn’t surprise me if it’s almost the same as some of the other newer ATF’s out there. Most AT’s operate now with higher temps and tighter tolerances than they did 20+ years ago. The 6R80 been out now since 2009 and I’ve yet to hear someone using a similar alternative and the transmission actually failing because of it. Who knows, there may be a fluid that actually has more benefit for it.

in 2009-2011, there wasn’t even LV branded fluid. It called for Dexron Vl. Which is I believe an LV fluid as well.

Through some searching I found Pennzoil Platinum LV multi is licensed by Ford and is approved for warranty.

I'm having to drive around due to each place only having a bottle or 2. There are 2 bottles the yellow bottle and the new grey bottle. Yellow is 6 bucks and the grey bottle is 12. Nuts huh? They changed the packaging and raised the price. Both bottles say approved by Ford.

Yeah. Did you notice the Valvoline product also having two offerings? Red bottle (multi car) and blue bottle. Both applicable to Ford LV spec as well. 1 gallon is $25, the other $32.00.
