Does anyone know what the maximum horsepower is that the stock engine/auto trans./rear axle can handle ? I’m thinking about installing a supercharger or turbo setup but really don’t want to have to spend more than needed upgrading everything on the car. So what is the max HP the drivetrain can handle without having to get into the upgrade everything else loop ? With all the other cars out there that are running 600+ HP, I would like to get above that mark. If the drivetrain can handle that or more, what is the best power adder to go with ?

I have an 800hp plus GT coming in two weeks. The technical answer to your question is yes, if you leave everything else stock, it will handle the power just fine. If you mod the suspension, tires, wheels etc. to actually hook up that amount of power, you will break things like axles, trans, driveshaft etc. Have fun shredding tires

99Zeus99, so how did you get your GT to 800HP ? Twin turbo, supercharger, etc.. ? That would be a great number to be running, as long as you can get it to hook up, as you said.

Lebanon Ford 3.0L Whipple. I haven’t even picked it up yet. I got one of the first ten but parts didn’t even arrive there until May 2nd. 800hp is the start, tunes could bring it as high as 940hp or so they say. I will post up dyno numbers when I get it.

you run into big problems when you get the car to hook with big power. Plenty of guys I know locally daily driving 650 to 900hp stock motor S550’s. Most of them baby the cars 90% of the time.

I have a 2015 GT, premium with the 50TH anniversary package which is nice but I didn’t realize it had a 3:15 axle ratio. My 2012 GT had a 3:73 axle ratio, which was great for quick launches and for passing. This may be a dumb question but aside from getting better fuel economy, what benefit is the 3:15 ratio have ? When I go to pass someone, it sure doesn’t have that acceleration my 2012 had. If I bump the HP up to 700+ will that ratio be a detriment ?

Be a lot easier and cheaper to change out your gear set. You wouldn't have to worry about tearing up your drivetrain. Then you would be back to the same performance your used to and money ahead for tires and gas. I bought my car to hunt demons :D

Better fuel economy and higher top end speed are about the only reasons to go 3:15 gears. If you take the limiter off, that car would top 180. With the supercharger, it'll do 200 plus. Check out the Hennessy stang on Jay Leno's garage.

I've read the 3:15 with the 6R80 is actually like a 3:65? or something like that in an MT82 car in first gear, so it's not really as bad as you think. That being said, I also have 3:15 and wish I would have gone with the 3:55 since I plan on staying N/A, for awhile anyway. It's not expensive to get a whole 3:55 assembly, but I'm worried about it messing up my powertrain warranty.

When I purchased my 16 base GT I told the sales person I must have the 3.55:1 gear or no deal. It really makes a difference when dropping a gear or two to pass semi's and such.
More fun in the twisty's as well. Believe me, dropping the car also helps the handling.

The factory auto shift strategies and converter are more of an issue. A trans tune and converter really wake up the auto S550’s..

Don't forget to replace the oil pump gear when you supercharge it

I ran 700rwhp on the stock Clutch/trans/rear end/motor for a year with no issues, once I bumped it up to 820ish the clutch said it was done and I imagine the rear end isn't too far behind. so Im going to do a clutch, Driveshaft ( mainly because I do a lot of airport runway racing) and axles all at the same time

3.15 is perfect for a 6r80 car as their first gear is so aggressive don't change that! 3.73 + boost is a smoke show

So what's the point?? A dyno queen or usable power? Why have a 800+ car if you can't use it?
I guarantee (promise you if its a manual) to get that power to the ground you will need the best DR out there and some stop the hop mods. Then half shafts, drive shaft and a clutch.
