Hello Chaps,

Don't shoot me - but I have a Mondeo, not a Mustang as yet!

I joined this forum to learn/share Sync3 experiences.

I manually upgraded from 2.0 to 2.2, and yesterday installed 3.0.

I managed to break my voice command control of navigation in the process., and have also learned that I can't manually enter an address when the vehicle is moving at 5kph or above, which is a pain.

Sync3 software versions 2.0, 2.2 and 3.0 all look nearly identical - text message support which stopped for me some months back for reasons unknown still don't work sadly. One bug of when voice command dialing my wife used to ask for me to choose between two identical numbers - has been fixed, it now just gets on with it.

Shame that voice commands for nav have been broken, but that's the risk you take when you install unapproved software. I guess that Ford Australia had a reason to not let me automatically update from software version 2.0, but curiosity got the better of me.

Keen to learn if the rest of you have been sensible and left the software untouched, or have done the same as me.

I also have inquired with Ford but they said 2.0 is still current and Dealer would update software version at next service if and when available. I would not risk downloading any unlicensed software as this could be dangerous with potential Virus. Perhaps do a full reset and go back to stock config until Ford updates you. That's my two cents anyway :)

Haha, yes - you are correct, but anyone who was curious and thought they may want to do this can learn from what I have done. I can not help but to tinker with this sort of thing, and it often ends in tears - but is a form of entertainment I guess.

If it all went very ugly, then a trip to the dealer to have them put it right was always an option, even if it then cost a few $ and a bit of shaming from the techs there!

I don't use Android Auto - but am told this performs much faster with ver 3.0 installed.

If Ford Australia shared information on software releases, then that would help - but they share nothing. New vehicles are rolling out with version 2.2 installed.

My vehicle automatically connects to the home Wi-Fi when I get home at the end of each day and polls for any updates, but nothing is provided - if they have such a great update feature, why isn't it being used! :)

I think you need a better form of entertainment. Maybe get a Mustang. Cheap as chips at the moment. Hope you sort out your issues. Cheers.

Sync2 is miles better than Sync3.

The interface is better and the navigation on 3 is truly abysmal. It has navigated me via places I have never seen before, and never want to see again.

Sometimes the nav wants to avoid freeways and tollways at all costs. One return trip from the Mornington Peninsula would have taken half an hour longer if I had taken the nav route (I have never had the nav set to avoid tollways, etc).

I am on Sync 3 version 2.0. I must see if I can find if there has been an update.

P.S. The Mustang credits (discredits?) TeleNav for the maps. Can't find the copyright credit on th Sync 2 car.

I didn't ever get to see Sync2, but I did have a Peugeot system previously and I very much prefer what Sync3 does compared to that.

Sometimes I choose to override the navigation suggested route, but usually end up regretting that decision. From time to time I wonder why it comes up with what it does - at least you can see the ETA, and when you divert to your own route you can tell within a few moments if your new route is better and by how much. Sometimes the system does know better than me, but not all the time - most of the time though certainly! :)

My maps haven't been updated in the past year, still on ANZ 1 15 which came with the vehicle. Maybe there will be a map update available when I am next in for a service.
