Nobody uses manual boost controllers anymore. Too risky for too many reasons to go into here. You can use an electronic boost controller to change boost levels like the old HKS AFC. But these days you would have your different boost levels set into your programmer like your Cobb Accessport etc.that is set up by an experienced tuner.

Most important thing to remember is that as you increase boost you have to have a reliable means of adding fuel/decreasing timing etc. This is best left to experts. If you go cranking up boost and you don't know what you are doing, you can expect to blow up the engine eventually.

Advantage of an adjustable boost setting is to have increased boost(high boost setting) for fun on Friday/Saturday. Then turn it back down to normal(low boost setting) for your week day commute.

All of this you have to discuss with your tuner beforehand as to what your goals are.

Thank you for the info. I come from the old school turbos. I bought a brand new 1980 Monte Carlo that was turbo that I pretty sure was the buick motor. One time it got so hot under the hood it burned a whole bank of plug wires. Oh, and it had a big oraNGE STICKER THAT IT HAD BEEN USED FOR TESTING

Yes, that Monte Carlo was the basis of modern turbo tech. Just the difference between a '84 GN Buick vs, the 87 GN is a big difference in tech. Modern turbo tech is amazing as to what was available 20+ years ago. The old days of draw thru turbos, turbo carb'd applications with a turbo hat are long gone. The Ecoboost Mustang is not only turbo'd but Direct Injected with variable cam timing.

Modern turbo tech now has: boost by gear, anti-lag, multiple boost settings changeable on the fly by handheld programmers/remote function. This is the best time in history to be driving a turbo car.
