Hello, this is my first ever post ! Wanted to see if anyone has installed some Mach 1 carbon canards and if so how ? The provide 3M tape but I do not fully trust it. If you do have 3M tape installed, does it hold up well ? Thank you !

Well... how much downforce do you think they provide and do you think double stick tape will hold up to that over time? If you think you are going to get 80lbs of downforce from the canard at 85mph or whatever, the tape has to be able to hold 80lbs. I'm not saying I"m in this camp as it is a bit extreme, but some will say any aero parts put on with tape are RICE(Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement). If the part is for looks and does not provide much downforce, tape may be fine.

If you go look at race cars, you will see them trying to connect their aero directly to the frame when possible. You will see big spoilers mounts go through gaps in the body work to the frame because they want that connection as direct and in the desired location. For the rear, that is the very back of the frame ,which works as a lever to maximize the force. I'm not saying this makes sense on a road car or even with canards. I'm simply discussing the theory in general. Ideally, you want to mount your aero direct to the frame and you can't have more downforce than the mount/tape can hold.

One word of possible caution, if that carbon canard gets too much downforce and gets ripped down off your bumper, I'm guessing you will drive over it with both front and rear tires. The resin from the carbon fiber can create shape edges when broken and puncture tires. You feel your tires go, ease off the gas and slowly pull over. Most of those people in the Ford Explorers who were injured and killed when they were blowing the rear tire by the exhaust responded by slamming on the brake when it happened. Slamming on the brakes is unfortunately most drivers reaction when something suddenly goes wrong. With one tire gone, that's going to quickly pull your car one way and often leads to a crash. If you suddenly lose a tire, any sudden changes in steering or braking are a mistake and you need to ease to a stop slowly as your car will be very unstable. Please don't get hurt out there.

You need this 3M 94 Tape Primer to help support the bond. I came across this when trying get VHB tape to stick to TPE. I've used it for other double-sided tape purposes too and it works amazingly well.
